Tynemouth,
I'll try to keep this short.Dx'd 2006 with proctitis via sigmoidoscopy.Have managed reasonably well with asacol supps, apart from urgency and short periods of flaring every few months.Colonoscopy in Sept.14,( after blood showed up in annual bowel cancer test).Lower bowel all clear, but mild inflammation in splenic flexure. Before apt, with GI in Dec. I made a list of additional symptoms that have shown up since the basic dx in 2006.He suggested a calpro test which showed a level of 300,which I know is not too high.GI prescribed Prednisolone for one month tapering from 30mg to 5mg.I finish tomorrow. The problem I have is that during the four weeks I've been on Pred.i've been really poorly.Periodic,d,blood, mucus, pain, indigestion, nausea and constipation.I only allow the C.for one day then take a laxative.Today there was so much blood in the toilet that I had to flush twice to clear it. I could hear it dripping into the bowl while I was sitting. There were also a couple of smallish clots.I have an achey stomach.Do you think the Pred.has caused this,or has there been a flare lurking and it's just coincidence ? I have an MRI on Feb.5th so I will wait for my results.I Have written a diary for the GI. Thanks for reading.

It could be. Prednisone helped my diarrhea, but made my bleeding worse. My GI said that it has this effect this in a small number of patients.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Feb. 5 can't get here soon enough!

Can you switch from Prednisone to EEN? My son was bleeding just a few days ago, but it stopped when he started EEN. No side effects. He's 18.
