I'm undiagnosed but crohns and UC run in my family.

I get into a lot of pain and the doctors won't give me any pain relief and aren't good with the advice.

What do you all do to get through the night of pain? My illness flares in the evening after 5ish, depending on if i've had an afternoon nap. It's at it's worse around 9pm.

I've take paracetamol.. doesn't help much.

Hi again Tasha,

Co-codamol (mix of paracetamol and codeine) helps me but I limit to taking it only when the pain is really bad.

I have found that heat pads (think that what theyre called!) really help. Someone I work with gave it to me as a secret santa present, you just pop it into the microwave for minute then its all warm and cosy for your stomach :)

Make sure you are not drinking anything except herbal teas or water for at least a week. See if something you are drinking may be causing it. Or, try eating smaller meals, so perhaps you are not so miserable after dinner? Ginger tea will certainly help. Hot teas to help soothe the stomach can reduce cramping and pain.

I would also suggest you try belly rubs for at least 5 minutes a piece, to get the blood circulating and help heal the area. When in my worst moments my husband would have to do them for at least ten minutes every few hours. I have found they helped in my healing process. Also try the Bikram Wind Removing Pose. I now do that every day (twice/day) and find that helps keep me on track. It basically massages the ascending and descending colon and reduces the air trapped there. I found that my stomach did not get as swollen as it was in the worse times. Worth a try!

I second all the above suggestions. I have two microwave pads, one in tartan and one shaped like a little lamb and he is called mint sauce - I'll let you work that one out :) Sometimes my discomfort is down to trapped wind so encouraging a good trumpet may also help.... you never know.

I use tiger balm that gives a cooling effect and helps with the pain. Peppermint tea also helps. Maybe a hot water bottle as well. Apart from that and the above I dont think theres much else to do. Cant you go see another doctor who may be of more help? Im sure you are aware but NSAIDs are not good on the gut so dont take any of them (ibuprofen etc)
