Hi all you wonderful people! I mean it, really. I'm a little bit on the shy side, so I've been "peeping" at forum posts for awhile now and finally decided to "put on my big girl pants" and join

My story as a mom of a 25 yr. old son on Remicade for CD is really no different from many of yours. Three years ago he got sick. Real sick. We went to 12 doctors, 7 emergency room visits, 2 hospital admissions, countless drug therapies, withdrawal from college, gallons of colonoscopy prep, loss of 2 jobs due to absenteeism, and more stuff that I've already forgotten. I do remember stuffing his Christmas stocking with hemorrhoid creams and telling him to let me know which one he liked the best. Funny what you remember.........oh yeah, we also got him an 18 in. toilet (taller than normal) so he could reach it faster.

Anyway, he finally ended up on Remicade and that's where we are right now. I use the term "we" very loosely because thank gawd I'm not on that stuff; however, look who's writing "our" story on this forum. It's not that I'm a helicopter parent, I promise. It's just that my son is only 25 and as any mother of sons knows, he's still immature. He has two brothers, so maybe I'm just in denial, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for another year, then I'll work on the next one. He's diagnosed bipolar. I'm not kidding  I hope they have a forum as nice as this one.

Under normal circumstances, I would be glad to tell you my real name, but we still have so many outstanding medical bills, somebody is probably trying to find me. In the meantime, now that I've "come out", I'll look forward to getting to know you.

Keep the faith,

mammabear, mother of John

Welcome MammaBear! John is so blessed to have a mother as caring and supportive as you. It sucks going through this disease alone - so John has you and now you have US! How long has John been on Remicade? Hopefully he is seeing some improvement but if he is fairly new to it, it could take a few infusions before seeing any results. Please keep us updated on his progress and feel free to ask any questions you may have - someone, or many people - will have the answer. A don't worry, your secrets are safe with us. Those darn medical bills can wait :)

Hello and welcome to the forum, I am pleased you have now officially joined us

How is John doing on the Remi - is the tum now settled?

Hiya Mammabear and welcome to the community :)

I'm sorry to hear about your son and also sorry about the medical bills :(

*hugs*

You mentioned he's diagnosed bipolar. Have they by chance tested his vitamin B12, vitamin D, folate, and vitamin B6 levels? People with Crohn's disease are commonly deficient in those vitamins and deficiencies can make bipolar worse or, in my opinion, sometimes be mistaken for bipolar disorder.

Again, welcome :)

Hi mammabear and :welcome:

I am so very sorry to hear about your son and all he has been through. :(

I hope the Remicade is working for him Mum and continues to do so for a very long time.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Dusty. xxx

Welcome! You sound like an awesome mom! All 3 of your boys are lucky to have you!

The toilet thing makes me laugh. Back in the spring before we even had a diagnosis for my 5 year old we bought a miniature toilet for our kids bathroom. I think it's 12 inches and it's all plumbed in an is exactly like a regular toilet. It has been so awesome for Ellie to use! When she sits on the big toilet for so long her legs start to fall asleep and her arms get tired from holding herself up. I wish all small kids with cd or uc could have one!!!

NMMom, you sound like an awesome mom, too! Knowing how tough this disease is on adults, I can't imagine how poor Ellie gets through the pain and all the other crap that comes with it. Children that deal with serious diseases are so amazing - and so are their families! The toilet thing says it all!
