joint pain

hi my name is dina. ive had crohns for approx 15 years with basically no problems just some eye issues.about 3 years ago was in a car accident and suffer from 2 herniated discs in my neck and 1 in my back. recently i have severe muscle pains everwhere including neck, back, knees, shoulders, ankles and severe headaches. was just curious if anyone has had these probles related to crohns. ive been to just about every specialist and they all think i'm crazy including my husband. and info would be greatly appreciated. thanks for ur help

Hello dina, i too have had eye issue due to crohn's. i have had my share of acidents in my life, well the thing with crohn's patients is we just dont heal well joints muscles tend to get inflamed easy and take a long time to heal. here is the thing your not crazy i have had horrible back pain and even the joints in my elbows hurt. I do get very bad headaches from time to time. Here is my sugestion and this is what happened to me as my wife is not always understanding of my condition, you need to de stress find something you really like and just do it, make time for yourself! This is why i was getting my headaches and they even developed into having anxiety attacks, high blood preasure. The back pain and joint pain is a tougher matter, iv'e learned to ignore some of it but not all. fact is your not crazy and not alone, hope you feel better soon.

Hi Dina and welcome! Oh, yes, many of us suffer from aches and pains. I often get back aches. However, I don't have issues with headaches. What medication do you take? Perhaps, it could be a side effect?

Hi there. I've read on here before that somebody found an article showing there is a link between arthritis and Crohn's because both are due (in some part) to inflammation. I was having a ton of pain all over and when I started remicade things started to clear up so hopefully this goes away for you soon.

Both are linked to inflammation. In some families, one sibling may suffer from Crohns another Rhuematoid Arthritis. Both being autoimmune disorders.

Only recently I too have been suffering from joint and muscle aches...yeooowwww! And before I went into a major flare last year...migraines, days and days they would last. So yes, crohns and muscle and joint pains, and headaches do seem to go hand in hand. Damnit.

pains

thanks for all ur help. i/m on asacol 400mg po 3 times daily. ive been on several differ pain meds without success. been on percocet for about a year due to herniated discs then stopped working switched to fentanyl patch, oxycontin, methadone and dilaudid, everyone of those seemed to make me sick. is anyone have had meds that relieved pain? thanks

I have very sore eyes. They are also dry during the night. I was putting eye drops in 4 times a night. Lately I do an eye wash with an eye cup and saline solution. This has helped. I told my doctor and he recommended seeing an eye doctor. As for the joint problems, I was doing Bikram yoga which is 90 minutes, 26 positions in a heated room at 105 degrees. You wouldn't believe what your body can do at that temperature! But I am taking a break from it since I was diagnosed in May with mild Crohn's. The Entocort gives me headaches and I lose sleep and experience a lot of flatulence. I am trying to walk 10 minutes am and pm for that. I do yoga for a half hour before bed and another half hour in the morning before work. My knees feel better than ever and while watching tv, I sit Japanese style with bent knees on my heels. Before Bikram I wasn't able to do this. The compression is like a turnakit (sp?) When you come out of this and lie flat on a mat with outstretched legs, the blood flowing through your knees heals your knees. ALso you can lie on your stomach with your arms underneath, hands down, fingers spread. This is good for elbows and wrists. I have calcium deposits on my achiles tendon so I was having a hard time walking but that has also been resolved through physical therapy and standing poses. I used to think I had arthritis but now I think it was the Crohn's. I have been taking yoga since I was 26 and am now 60. It has been my savior. When I go back to Bikram in the fall I'm going to try to talk to some students who have Crohn's who also do the hot yoga. My doctor said if I really enjoy it he won't take it away from me. I felt so strong when I was going there but I needed a rest from the schedule it put me on. I have read elswhere that Crohn's affects the eyes and I have had some throat trouble that soon subsided. Two feet of my intestine is inflammed. I eat Kimchi and yogurt to change the PH of my stomach which is overly acidic.

I have Spondylitis which is a form of arthritis that is focused in the back and hips. It is linked strongly to Crohns and other inflammatory issues. People with Spondylitis have higher amounts of eye inflammatory problems then just crohns. you might want to talk to a rhyematogist.

I was told by a pain management specialist that crohns is a version of "rheumatoid arthritis" in our G.I. tract. My Joint pain along with back pain started in earnest the same time as i was diagnosed (a whopping three weeks ago). I have had past experiences with severe joint pain and swelling but it was attributed to a virus or some other environmental influence. Now I think this was one of the early signs. I also have chronic migraines ( migraines occurring three or more times a week). I was on a grocery list of prevention meds as well as attack meds. i stopped everything and feel better. One thing is for sure, when I get a flare, the migraine is moments behind. Lowering stress is key. Meditation and relaxation techniques work wonders. I use music (used to be sound and light sensitive) but not anymore. Don't know why. I also see a chiropractor due to my line of work and feels this helps the joint pain, especially the hips, as well as the tension version of headaches which are the beginning of my migraines. Best of luck.

rheumatoid arthritis requires rheumatoid factor in your blood, a lot of doctors get stuck on the rheumatoid factor when dx arthritis, if you don't have that factor, which most people with crohn's related arthritis do not have, ask your doctor about seronegative arthritis which is fancy language for arthritis with out rheumatoid factor.
there is some thing like 300 types of arthritis, don't let an uniformed doctor get stuck on the wrong type

I get pain in joints when I have a flare up. My doctor once said that when the flare up is treated then the joint pain gets better. the really fun thing is that sometimes youc an't tell if maybe you hurt yourself doing someting (he, is my back in pain because I moved that desk? ) or bc of the cd.

I used to work more than 12hrs by sitting in front Computer. I got back pain problem, then i consulted my doctor, he told me that by over stress on my back i got this problem then he suggested natural made supplement for the back pain relief. Now i got back pain relief...

All of this is from inflammation, do some searches of anti-inflammatory foods, mostly vegetables, fruits and other natural foods. Eliminate grains, sodas, and foods like that - do a Google search for anti-inflammatory foods, this will help!

I have developed pain in my ankles and knees. All four joints at the same time. I think this is Crohn's related because it came on suddenly and in more than one joint. My GI once told me that Crohn's related joint pain would come one just like that did. I have not yet been diagnosed, but it is driving me crazy! Every time I get out of a chair I have this pain and have difficulty moving.

This has been my year for Extra Intestinal Manifestations. I was diagnosed with psoriasis at my last GI visit.
