just come back from consultant

jus come back from my consultant ( in ther all of about three mins !! ) to be told my large bowel looks ok so its ibs no need to look at small bowel !! when i told him my blood results show auto immune and i was bleed he shrugged his shoulders and said its ibs deal with it !!!! sssooo mad !! i would love it to ibs but how can he be sure wen my bloods indicate its not and my bowel habits and most importantly localised pain is getting worse , i just wish they would listen .... three minutes what a joke , back to gp for referal to gi this time he said < gp is lovely wish he was the consultant !! x :mad2:

Was this a gastroenterologist? It's not clear from your post whether it was, or what sort of consultant you saw...

Hi thanks for replyin , this chap is a colorectal surgeon , he was very rude which botherd me more than t diagnosis I think ! Xx he did a crp blood test when I sed I wasn't happy and sed that will come back postive if its crohns if its negative thers no need to look further xxx fed up of been made to feel like its all in my head , I would love it to b ibs as that's no damaging to insides but I want lookin at properly to be sure not educated guesses !! Xx grrrrr

Sounds like you got surgeon speak for: it's not my problem you need to see someone else.

Ignore him and see the gastroenterologist. Surgeon's are notoriously bad at manners, goes with the territory to some extent.

Well I understand your frustraition. I've been there...I was spewing blood out of my anus and incredibly anemic. I got a Ct scan and given pills hich the doctor told me "these won;t help" then sent away. I finally pretended I as in severe pain and that matched with the fact I was very anemic and needed a blood transfusion I finally got my second look. my second colonoscopy showed the same(but worse) evidance my first colonoscopy showed.

Even with all the evidance staring at them(I still have the pictures from my first colonoscopy and the paper stating it looks like UC) it doesn't always mean you'll get treatment. It was only after my second rush colonoscopy in the hospital that I got answers and treatment. In the coarse of a year btw...my disease was able to take up all my colon and rittled my colon with ulcers, I went from mild case of disease to moderatly severe(more on the severe side).

I learned though that doctors are ********(how do you not treat someone who has obvious inflammation..even me someone NOT trained can see the inflammation in tht picture!) it's hard to make them see what you see and bloodwork matters only sometimes(a healthy iron leave would have been a 12-14 I was at a 7 and they were still not willing to give me a blood transfusion). I hope you eta second opinion and you get answers soon

thanks all , i have got my fighting head on ! dont get me wrong i would like it to b ibs , but i want b sure not jus an educated guess , he wasnt prepared to listen when i told him my dia woke me up in the night , it sometime had blood in , the pain is localised , i cant eat much cos when i eat it hurts so much afterwoods , and any sort of bran , fiber is horrific , now my true ibs friends have said that these are sooo not ibs , so why not rule out bowel disease isnt that what these consults are ment to do xx , thanks all for getting back , does anyone know about this crp blood ?? he told me thats the test for crohns , then told me bariums are pointless because they will only show up if your having a flare ... im soo confused we should be able to trust these people !! xx

the CRP is an inflammation marker. So basically if that is high, it's means somewhere in your body something is inflamed, and usually if you are having bowel problems, then it can be linked to crohns.

Tbh he sounds like he's not a very good doctor as far as gastro entorology is concerned. I see my colo rectal surgeon and he deals with the surgery side of things and i now see gastro enterologists to sort out the crohns side of things and keep on top of that, and it sounds like that is what he should have done with you rather than just passing you off as having IBS.

thanks for the speedy ansa martin , i think you are right too , wat if this crp thing doesnt show up then he wont let me have my small bowel looked at , he said all people with crohns have this ?
btw i have jus read your story omg:ywow: , how awful what a traumatic ordeal to go through , so glad you are able to tell the tale and help others , bless you im glad to hear you are doing much better:)

Thanks :)

If the crp doesn't show up then it doesn't mean you don't have Crohns. Now please don't take what I say as gospel as i am not a doctor and can only talk about my own experiences.... but when crohns is inactive I.e you are in remission and not currently experiencing many if any symptoms... then naturally I would imagine your crp would be low at that time.... and as a flare up starts and you come out of remission, your crp would be high as a result.

thanks martin thats kind of what i thought and from the research and chatting with my family members and friends with crohns they seam to think the same , the flares seam to last a v long time and do get better , i few friends have said they had a few flares before diagnosis , because my 'flare' has been going on since end of may ( it is seaming to be improving a little now ) my family said they dont think its IBS whilst the the IBS flares are just as painful they seam to be more frequent last a few days at a time ?? xx going to see my lovely doc today so hopefully he will refer me to a gi :ysmile:

gp was as always such a lovely man , want me back in 10 day to see how i am and to get me refered to a gi once all the paperwork has come through from colorectal dept xx fingers crossed they are more useful !!! x

I've been also told that CRP is not elevated in all people with CD during a flare. So you can be in a flare with normal bloodwork. I think it's like 5% or something like that.

Hi Fosterschick,
I so know what you are going through!!
The first gastro consultant I saw told me there was nothing wrong with me and it was all in my head. I promptly told him to stick it where the sun dont shine and walked out.
My GP is so lovely and I too, wish he could do all my treatment.
I do hope you get answers soon, I think the not knowing is horrible and I find it a bit easier to deal with when I could put a label to some of my probs.
Write a list of your symptoms and any questions you can think of.
Fingers crossed for you and keep us updated.

thanks sharon and denise , its all getting v frustrating espec as they are so keen to jump to IBS , i am going to keep on with it , what happened when you told this man to stick it ( good move im so impressed ) im scared they will strike me off totally but i really dont want to see this chap again espec when he sed my barium was totally normal yet i have the finding and the final phrase says ' no OTHER abnormality present at this time ' !!! xx good luck with the progress to you both keep me posted x

muppet i have just read your story , my goodness your are all a strong lot to cope with all this , well done for sticking to ur guns , you go to show docs dont always know best x

I went and saw my IBD nurse and put a complaint in against the moron.
Got to see a different consultant next time.
Stick up for yourself if you feel you can. It is your health and you know your body better than someone else.
Keep your chin up hun and keep us posted.

haha your tone makes me laugh sharon , good for you , think i will complain about him , i hae already said i wont see him as i have no faith in him , but he is an honary proffessor consultant surgeon !!! mind perhaps this is why he was so rude , i dont know , but you are right i know my body xx

HAHAHA the higher they are the harder they fall.
Apparantly the consultant I saw was supposed to be high up in his field.
Bloody corn field if you ask me but my god he was so far up his own ass he will never need a colonoscopy!!
If you have no faith in the medical 'professional' that is seeing to your care its not going to work. You will be afraid to ask questions and question why they are donig this, that and the other. I now have a fab consultant and I am really lucky to have 2 fab IBD nurses I can speak to and paired with my wonderful GP I now fially feel I am getting the level of care I deserve i.e someone who listens to me, answers my questions openly and honestly and doesnt think I am a drain on the NHS.
Keep going hun.
Sharon xxxxx

hahah i have i laughted so hard:ylol: , i defo am going to say something now , he cant be rude like that its just not proffesionsal xx good luck to you too keep me posted:thumleft:
