After having Crohns symptoms since I was in my early 20's, I was finally diagnosed with Crohns in April of 2013.
On top of the GI symptoms and weight loss, I was also experiencing arthritis pain and bone pain all throughout my body which I learned to live with and tolerate because my doctor's kept dismissing it.
Since getting diagnosed with Crohns in April and starting treatment, the bone pain has increased. It spread from my back and shoulders to my wrists, hands and hips. I was crying myself to sleep at night, unable to get comfortable. The Pentasa four times daily and occasional Prednisone tapers did not seem to be helping me after almost 6 months of taking it.
I finally went to my GI doctor to discuss other treatment and to discuss Humira. My GI doctor was in agreement with me, and he started the process of getting my Humira approved. After about 2 weeks of waiting for approval my Humira finally arrived this Thursday.
It is something that I have been terrified of after researching all of the possible side effects and risks, to the point where I wasn't sure if I wanted to take that risk.
I took my four loading doses last night. I administered them into my thighs, there was minimal discomfort, far less than the pain I have been experiencing for the past 10+ years. After about 3-4 hours, I felt this wave of cool tingling relief. It was absolutely amazing. I thought I was going crazy, because I didn't think it would provide relief that quickly. For the first time in over 10 years I am pain free, and I forgot what that feels like. I know it hasn't been even 24 hours, but so far I don't feel anything but relief. My fears have definitely subsided, and I hope that this relief continues.
I have a friend who is taking Humira for AS, and he warned me about flu like symptoms and a hangover type of feeling. But so far, so good.
I picked up some immune boosters, and am a vegan and I have just recently cut out gluten. I am hoping that this feeling lasts.
I am still taking prednisone, which I am hoping to taper off from at my next follow up.
Any other suggestions? Or anything I should look out for in the next few days?
