Hi everyone
I haven't been around too much lately...just every now and then to respond to a few posts.
Sydney is doing really well on the Sulfasalazine....no belly complaints since diagnosed and treated last November.
She just had a checkup and bloodwork (previous test was 3 months ago)...only thing the Nurse said was showing a little off was white blood count and hemoglobin a 'little lower' than norm.

Any thoughts on this...and how to counteract it??
The Nurse was going to put the results before the pediatric GI specialist today....see if perhaps she needs an iron supplement or something....

We are off to Florida for some R&R and SUN for 2 weeks come Mother's Day...so would like to have this figured out before we go.

So any thoughts greatly appreciated...take care everyone!
Jacqueline

My son is on a liquid iron supplement which certainly seemed to work quite quickly and never caused any side effects like constipation.

Thank you for your reply...how old is your son and how much liquid iron is he taking?
When I think of iron supplements 1st thing that comes to mind is belly upset...constipation or diarrhea.
And don't want her on vacation feeling like that....

DD is on ferrous sulfate. She is 5 and takes 5 ml 3 x a day (220mg/5ml). :) No c/o increased stomach pain, and we have gone off of iron while having nausea/vomiting issues and back on without a noticeable change in symptoms.

Hi, my son is 13 now and the liquid iron certainly seems to help quickly. It's called Sytron (sodium feredetate) and he is supposed to take 5ml, 3 times a day, but with all the meds he is taking I usually remember once a day - bad mom

Low hemoglobin is usually caused by iron but your need the results of iron studies to be sure. Iron should not supplement without confirmation of low iron stores.

Good luck.

I agree. I took ferrous fumerate for low iron when hemogloblin was fine. I have constipation a lot so the iron may've set off my most recent episode.

Thanks for the update hun. :)

Do you know the figures on how low the haemoglobin was?

Was the WBC higher or lower?
