Hi Everyone,

You may find these very interesting - I think we might be closer to having some answers. Now I am thinking my parents dog gave me crohn's......... he has colitis and had it before I was diagnosed!!! I always laugh when people ask if I have a family member with IBD - I say yeah, my little brother Diesel (i'm an only child)!!!!

Take care,
Steph

The one study says the following:

Inflammatory bowel disease can be treated with antibody drugs that block TNF-alpha activity, though their toxicity limits their use. The researchers showed that such antibody drugs cured and also prevented ulcerative colitis in T-bet-deficient mice. However, they are pursuing other potential therapies, such as increasing T-bet levels in the immune cells, administering natural immunity-dampening cells called T-regulatory cells, or giving "probiotics" - healthful bacteria that can keep the harmful microbes under control.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Maybe we cannot use the antibody drugs due to toxicity, but since there is natural substances that do much the same thing we certainly can make use of them.

One herb I have been using has a similar effect on by inhibiting TNF-alpha production. Turmeric is cheap and has no side effects. There are several studies that confirm this. Here is one.

Drugs that inhibit TNF-alpha activity are Adalimumab (Humira), Infliximab (Remicade), Etanercept (Enbrel)

Hey Steph... Then I guess you prefer suppositories? ;-)

And Dan, I guess that makes it a game of cat and mouse?

OK, seriously for a change, maybe now doctors will 'treat' probiotics with respect. I'd like to see what would happen in my case if I added some tumeric to my diet, washed it down with some absinthe? (wormwood). Oddly enuff, seems wormwood was used in the really olden days for treating IBD before 'doctors' knew what IBD even meant.
Problem is, who knows the right dosages today that the ancient scholars used to use

Afterall, it is listed as a noxious weed, and too much apparently can kill a fellow. :-(

I know I didn't pick up Crohn's till I moved back in with my mother who has Lupis. Now that probably doesn't mean anything though the study did say that the sick mother could somehow infect the child. How many people live with another person with the disease?

Sounds like good news to me, since I've been reading about that remicade and it works on that TNF. Just another piece to the puzzle I guess. Looks like its going to be a while though before there are any treatments though.

If this is true it would also be nice if they said which bacteria are the ones causing a problem and how they get into your system. And I guess I'm with Kev on this one I'll go take my probiotic now, I've been real lax on regularity with mine.

I like the idea of my immune system being regulated by Zolinza - i think that make more sense then suppressing it with remicade as I am currently doing - that is the only reason I am able to walk and live without pain.
I shared these articles with people so that they could have more information and nothing more then that. I don't care what people do with the information. my comment about my parents dog is nothing more then a joke - people that know me understand that.
anyways i don't know why I bother - i am happy with where I am and where I am going. Bottom line is this is a fucking shity disease and there is no other way to put it.

Cheers!!!!!

Hey steph. I apologize if you took offense at my joke(s). I meant no disrespect. just took my queue from your mention of your little brother diesel. The article you posted
was informative, and a welcome contribution to the forum. Many thanks for posting.
