I was doing so well after surgery and stupid me lifted heavy bags and pushed a full cart and now I have sharp pain at the site of the resection. It's been less than 3 weeks do you think I'm in pain just from moving it or I may have ruptured something?

Oh no! You should not have lifted those bags!

Hopefully you just stressed the area out a little bit. I would think after three weeks you wouldn't be terribly vulnerable, but it's important to allow yourself to fully heal.

I would probably give your surgeon a ring just in case. They will know better what signs to look for in case of something serious happening.

I really hope so I'll be miserable and never forgive myself if I did any damage. I think if the the area of anastamosis ripped that I would have a fever.

Really you shouldn't lift anything heavier than a kettle for 6 weeks post surgery as you risk damaging the wound site but we all know this is quite tricky, some people heal quicker than others. Put your fingers on the site of pain and cough if it bulges or you already feel a bulge then it could be a hernia that might need repaired. If the pain is naturally easing then hopefully it is just a strain, either way probably best to get it checked out by the doc.

Adding to your last post I think that the anastomsis should be very strong and fairly healed at this stage and i agree with you that you would have accompanying symptoms if you had torn it. It is more than likely a strained abdominal muscle as try are weaker and have been cut through. Try not to stress though.

Yeah exactly. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but it sounds like luckily you are probably okay.

I did the same thing, started to do housework sooner than I should have. I lifted a heavy laundry basket and I've had pain at my surgery site off and on since. Mine isn't a sharp pain though, it almost feels like an internal bruise. No fevers or anything that would indicate tearing or whatnot. I'm glad my stupidity didn't undue my surgeon's fabulous work.
