lil help with sypmtoms

Hello all! This is my first post on this site and I was wondering if anyone can help me out.

I have had Crohn's for 15 years now with all the ups and downs. As of the last few months I have had chronic diarrhea and have had to make several trips to the washroom day and night which has affected my sleeping or lack of. I have been put on predisone and pentasa for the last month with no changes it seems. I have been strickly following the SCD diet and have not really noticed any changes other than the obvious benefits. If anyone can shed light on my situation I would be most appreciative.

Hi Johnny, welcome to the forum. sorry to hear of your situation. Can't shed light on your situation, but perhaps a change of perspective. considering your diet, and the pred (but at what dosage you didn't say) I'm surprised at your symptoms. I've found that pred worked rather quickly AND noticeably, even when the dosage wasn't enuff for full rescinding of symptoms. Think you need to see your doctor as soon as possible. Just cause you have crohns, and these are typical of crohns, doesn't mean that crohns is the only possible cause. That you are taking a med that usually works fast, and on a diet that minimizes the symptoms, just makes alarm bells go off in my head. Need to check this out..

Thanks for the reply Kev. I agree you could be right about it being somthing other than Crohn's Ive been put on 20mg of pred daily and have been on it for 1 month now. I have a appointment in the near future with my specialist and I hope we can figure out what it is. I was thinking it could be parasitic? but it has been going on for such a long time now that I am not sure.

not too sure about your problem either but i think ure pred dosage may be a little small. when first diagnosed i was put on 40mg ,felt ok,and decreased it by 5mg every 2 weeks until at 20mg when i felt pains and other symptoms coming back. since then ive only been able to reduce it by 5mg more over 4 months due to other drugs. it could well be something else though. just a thought.

Hey amor151 thanks for the reply and input. After reading though the forums it seems that a lot of people start on 40mg. I'll suggest upping the dosage to my Doc and see what he says.

yeah its definately worth mentioning. shortly after i started the preds at 40mg i felt a great deal better, hope this works for you.

Yeah, my 1st time out, they put me on 20 mg... mind you, i felt better in days, but it wasn't till they upped my dosage to 40 mg that I had any big illness 'eurekas'. Bear in mind two things... Due to side effects, docs usually start off conservative in their dosages... second, also due to side effects, they (and you) will want to get off this drug as soon as it does it's thing. The tapering off is the worst part.
