Hi! My name is Rachel and I'm 22 years-old. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 4 years ago and have been on Entocort (Budesonide) 3mg ever since. It has really worked for me, but I'm worried that being on this medication (though it's a low dose) for so long could have long-term side effects. I guess I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who has been on Entocort for a number of years and has had any side effects? What are the possible side effects? Would it be wise for me to get off this medication and take something else that is not a steroid?

One doctor has told me it's fine to stay on it. If it works then why mess with it. But another doctor recently told me it would be wise to switch to a different medication especially since I'm so young. So I don't really know what I should do.

Anything advice, experiences, or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

It's generally used for acute flares and shouldn't be used as a maintenance therapy. Steroids can wreck havoc on the body in many ways.

Generally a course of Entocort is 8 weeks and can be repeated as needed. According to the manufacturer there is no proof of clinical efficacy beyond 3 months.

I am perplexed and disturbed that your doctor thinks it's ok to just keep you on steroids for so long.
