I know... But I am one of the people who doesn't seem to lose weight dramatically with Crohn's, so I was wondering if anyone has any healthy tips? I am still currently on the dreaded Prednisolone but happily, I've weened down so the cravings have almost disappeared. But being a Crohnie... I can't eat certain things like salad, the raw veg just kills me, and feeling soo tired all the time, the best I can do is a 10 minute walk most days, unless I'm really ill, then I won't move from the sofa, so any tips would be a God send! I only want to lose a few pounds.. about 14 at the most, but please make sure they are good tips! Thank you!

My one and only tip, cause I have been there and lost 26 lbs, just cut in half what ever you are eating. There really isnt any magic, and no fats or junk food. I didnt gain a pound whilst being on Pred, I just finished two weeks ago. But now I have gained a bit. Just have to trick your body and eat more meals smaller portions if you are not active.

Aw Vicky
I feel your pain!
I've just come off Pred and gained a stone, so I'm cutting biscuits crisps chocolate and sweets out now, over indulged on them with the Pred munchies!
I eat a big breakfast, lighter lunch, and a small dinner, no snacks after 7PM, and I have cereal for supper, and I've found that my clothes are fitting better now.
good luck hun

Yes Vicky, I am there with you. I avoid salads, raw vegies, etc.. I also am tired, with Enteropathic Arthiritis. I have alot of leakage, (rectum, fistula) so walking and exercising is not a pleasant activity for me. I wish I could loose 20 pounds. I hope to maybe pick up a few tips here also!!

I shouldn't really contribute advice when I haven't actually lost weight for a couple of months now, but you might find that fitting in short bits of movement whenever you can could help you get an extra bit of exercise in when it's impossible to do anything much. Park a little further from the door at the grocery store, or do just a couple of ab crunches at a time. Good luck!

I always found that eating small meals throughout the day rather than 2 or 3 large meals helped in keeping my weight down (I usually eat about 6 or 7 times a day). Also, try and cut out any carbs (bread, pasta, heavy foods) as much as you can. I don't advise cutting out any one thing completely as that makes you want it even more....but if you can keep it down to the occasional 'treat' that usually works (ie. a square of chocolate per week as opposed to an entire bar of chocolate).

Good luck!!

Cut out all processed food. Don't eat it if it has a label. If it has a label, don't eat it if it has more than 3 ingredients. Bread, pasta, fast food - NO, NO, NO!

No refined sugar products.

Cut out dairy, especially cheese.

The weight will fall off.

But no processed foods means a lot of time in the kitchen. It takes a lot of discipline but is so much better for you in the long run.

Good luck! - Amy

I lost about 12 lbs in a month when I started the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
.
Then I started eating smaller meals (as it is possible I have a stricture, and food was getting stuck) and I lost another 16 lbs in another 2 months. I am still on the SCD plus the smaller more frequent meals and have kept the weight off.

It is interesting that on smaller meals I feel less hungry than I used to. So maybe it is a matter of training one's stomach to make do on less food. :)

Maybe you can get a hula hoop? It actually is shown to burn a lot of calories, is very cheap to purchase, and you can do it in the comfort of your own home right in front of the TV. I bought one with water inside (found it at Target) and it is easier to keep up than a regular hula hoop and it adds a little bit of weight so it burns more calories. I just try to do a few minutes during commercials on TV. I personally HATE walking/running around the neighborhood because I'm so embarassed people are watching my jiggly parts, lol so for me I like that I can do the hula hoop at home. Although I have been quite lazy lately and have not been doing it.... Its always a struggle to lose weight for me!

Hi Ladyvik,

I'm just like yourself, but am trying a diet but not a diet ! from Sherry Brescia who has sent me a 4 day trial called "pain free in one day" designed for IBD sufferers, I'm on my second day, yesterday I never felt hungry or anything, so if you like once I've done my 4 days will let you know, its designed to help the gut. I'm on my way to Cornwall early hours sat, its my home and my family live in Probus, my brothers 50th.

I can understand the weight bit though and cant shift it, I blame the drugs.

I'm with you, LadyVik. Just came off of 2 years on Prednisone, and need to drop these nasty 15lbs. My 2-cents is adding exercise to your daily routine.

I've just started training for a fund raiser 1/2 marathon with Team Challenge for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. Lot's of running for a good cause! Very motivating.

So my exercise is up, and I now need to focus on the food factor. The SCD sounds like a good plan, I just hate to give up my bread! (though I know I would benefit in many ways)
