Low Fiber Diet

I am technically "undiagnosed" because my GI condition is caused by extensive adhesions, but I was wondering if any of you follow a low-fiber diet?
I know when people have flare-ups or obstructions, they often follow the low-fiber diet, but was wondering if anyone consistently follows this diet?

My surgeon put me on this diet a couple years ago and it changed everything for me - I rarely have symptoms! I am starting to wonder, though, how this diet will affect me in the future because the foods I eat are so unhealthy and lack fiber, which is needed for good bowel health.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Hi Shyloh, I'm undiagnosed as well, and I also try to follow a low-residue (low fiber) diet. I have a juicer and try to get most of my fruits and veggies that way, as I've found it's really easy on my tummy to drink fresh juice. A lot of the fiber is broken down that way but you still get the good vitamins & nutrients. On ocassion I can have a salad or fruit as-is, but on the whole I prefer to juice my fruits & veggies. Steamed or boiled veggies is also easier to digest than fresh, so if you don't have a juicer you could try that.

I hope you can get a proper diagnosis soon! Feel free to join us in the Undiagnosed Club (in the Support section of the forum) - there's lots of us on here who are undiagnosed. Are they going to do anything like laprascopy for your adhesions?

Thanks for the thoughts! I probably should do more research on good juices and such; I definitely feel like I have to be missing vitamins. I do drink a lot of vitamin enhanced waters, which help, but I know the body does not absorb those vitamins as well as it would from the original fruit or vegetable.

They probably wont do anything for my adhesions until I have another full bowel obstruction again. My last surgeon said going through surgery again would be the worst thing for me. Luckily I am symptom free for the most part, now that I've started this diet! I know if I started having problems, they would probably consider a surgery to reduce the adhesions, but for now I'm just doing the diet.
