I looked into low residue diets today, on recommendation from my GI doctor and I was saddenned by some of the things I shouldn't be eating. I think I might die without pickles olives horseradish and cherries. No corn bread - boo hoo! My favorite fruit in the world - nectarines, only without the skin. Whaaaaahaaahaaaa.
I was surprised by a few things too. First and foremost - why can't I eat CHOCOLATE??? I'm getting my period any day now, and I just found out I can't take Alleve - now chocolate? I'm about to kill someone!!
Oh goody - I can have asparagus, especially if it's c (gag) ca (gag) canned (gag, barf). And beets.
One site said graham crackers were okay, one site said they weren't, and most others didn't say either way. I like graham crackers.
Many sites said lettuce was okay. That surprised me.
What am I trying to say here? I don't know. Just venting I guess. Sounds so boringto eat, but sitting home because I don't want to crap my pants is boring too. I guess I'll give it try. Oh fresh fruit, how I will miss you...

Yeah.. Aleve is BAD for the gut. My Crohn's started after a 6 month period of constantly taking Aleve. (Well and tons of stress (why I took the Aleve) and a vaccination). Tylenol really isn't too bad... if you find regular Tylenol not kicking out those menstrual cramps, try Tylenol Arthritis... that's what I take. The only thing is that you can only take them once every 8 hours. Ever try Midol or Pamprin... I hear they work.

I looked up Midol, and they have 4 kinds. 2 are acetominophen, one is naproxen sodium, and one is ibuprofen. One also has caffeine, which can make cramps worse. Weird that they are all different. So I checked Pamprin, 2 are acetominophen, one is naproxen. I guess you really have to read what you're buying! Thanks for the tip, I would have not thought of those.
Can't I PLEASE just have some chocolate????!??!??!?

Well then Creepy during your period induced chocolate cravings you will be just fine ;)

I looked at some sites for the low residue diet...very similar to what my book "Eating Right for a Bad Gut" says. I don't understand lettuce either...goes right through me! I have been trying to stick to this type of diet. Though I think it helps to not make things worse I haven't found that it gets rid of all my symptoms.

I would say eat chocolate too if you need it once in a while. If you have to give up all the things you love in a diet you can never stick to it and then the diet does you no good anyway. I would die if I had to give up cheese...I just love cheese!
