DS is now regularly having pain in his right hip and groin/thigh area.
He says its all day long .
He has been having it on and off this week.
Trying so hard not to call the Rheumo to bump up the appt right now :(

Oh and being DS he makes an excuse as to way it hurts ...
Don't blame the kid it's better than we have no idea why you keep getting random joint pain but in the sane joints over and over again .....

Tag in Dusty
Didn't your son have issues with the groin area and pain?

Other than that it sounds like your DS is trying to mimic Grace to a tee.
Her rheumy put it this type of down to her tendons and or ligaments being inflamed.
Very painful and I notice now it makes that leg week and it buckles from time to time.

Hugs

Poor kiddo. M's hip pain makes her miserable. In her case it's not just the ligaments but the actual joint in inflamed and there is a fair amount of damage (erosions, chondral wear etc.). We were told that groin pain means that it's the hip joint.

When she first had hip pain I totally panicked and got her appointment moved up. Her rheumatologist ordered an MRI and once the results of that were in we put her on Humira. Sometimes calling is justified!

I hope the rheumatologist is able to explain your son's joint pain sooner rather than later!

Thanks for the tag Fw. :)

Matt did have groin and hip pain that made it difficult for him to walk. It was related to inflammation in the TI and a resulting abscess on the psoas muscle.

Now, he did say at his last GI visit that he does get (very) occasional hip pain and/or lower back pain. It hasn’t worried him for quite a while now and the GI does not think it is Crohn’s related. Personally I am not so sure, I don’t mean that it is Crohn’s related as in flaring but I wouldn’t rule out that he has some sacroiliac joint issues happening, that being erosion that occurred when he was flaring. Lower back would certainly raise a flag but hip and groin are the most common referred pain points with the SI joint.

I hope you soon have answers mlp and your boy some long overdue lasting relief. :ghug:

I think its just joint stuff since he is not limping .
He swims about 4-5 days a week for over an hour .
He also has heel pain but that seems ok.
I am ok with waiting to see if the mobic can help at all.

Heel pain is VERY common in kids with spondyloarthropathy. In fact, it's usually the first symptom (but I know your DS is special and does things his own way ;) )

M has inserts in her shoes (heel cushions - you can get them over the counter) that she says helps.
Hope Mobic helps and you figure this out soon. Sending hugs:ghug:

Off topic but just thought I would throw it out there for those that have active kids and early teens. Particularly if they do sports on hard surfaces.

Heel pain and/or knee pain is not an uncommon phenomena and is a result of growth and the tendons that overlay the growth plates under the knee and in the heel.

Sever’s disease involves the heel and Osgood-Schlatter’s disease involves the knee, when the knee is involved there is usually a painful lump under it, at the top of the shin. Matt suffered with both of these.

Sorry to derail mlp.

 Mean’t to add that when he was suffering with these flare ups it caused hip/groin pain because of how he was compensating for the other pain.

Grumble grumble ...,
The two times I gave DS mobic this week
With a day break inbetween
Stomach pain multiple trips to the bathroom
Lots of nausea - this is over 12 hours after the mobic
So I think its irritating his Gi track
Since loose stool is not his crohn's baseline .

I will give it a few days ...

Ugh no mlp. :(:(:(

So not fair for your boy and for you having to see it. :ghug:

You are both in my thoughts.

I have terrible hip/groin pain that mostly gets blown off by doctors but hoping to get an MRI this year to see what the heck is going on...seems a lot of crohnies have hip pain. I grew up having really bad knee pain, hip/back pain and I was always just told to stretch take ibuprofen (always seemed to make it worse I guess bc it aggravated the Crohn's that they didn't know I had) and wear a knee brace...glad to hear your children are getting more extensive care than I had!

So up late last night and tonight multiple restroom trips - attempts with little to show for it.
Stomach cramping all day headaches joints etc.,,,
Thigh/groin area really bad he can't run .
Clingy

So far no blood or fever .
Hoping its a blip - I haven't given mobic since Friday .

Did I mention I really hate crohns!!!!

Is it unilateral and if so which side?

When he is laying on his back is the pain worse when he straightens his leg and relieved somewhat when he flex’s his knee?

Dusty. :ghug:

Dusty
Right groin thigh area only
Fine straight leg lying flat on his back
Worse if he flexes his knee
Worse later in the day
When walking
Stretching it lying flat on his back straight leg normal stretch pain back of the leg - same for both legs .

It does sound like his hip joint - M's pain is also worse later in the day after walking.
In the past though she has had hip pain that her rheumatologist said was referred pain from her SI joint (no idea how the doctor can tell), so that's probably a possibility too.

Hope he feels better soon:ghug:

Based on what you have said, mlp, it is sounding like a SI joint issue to me, but that is a very uneducated guess!

Placing pressure on certain points can give a doc pretty good clues as to where the problem is stemming from.

I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon. :ghug:

Grace's pain is the greatest at afternoon through night and even the wee hours in the morning.
Stiffness only in the morning.
I caught Grace rubbing her hips and made me think of your boy.:(
Let me add to this thread again, I hate this disease.:ymad:

Hugs to you both.

Yup, definitely hate both JIA and Crohn's. M was up till 5am in pain last night:ybatty:
