About a month ago now, going on a month I decided I needed to start making changes in my life, something I should have done LONG ago and perhaps I could have prevented having surgery but the way I see it, it's also a blessing because I didn't realize just how much what I was doing was affecting my life and not in a good way.

You know what they say, it sometimes takes almost losing your life to make you see the big picture & see what is happening to you & I saw this in the hospital. I've now decided to do something about it.

For the past month, I've been taking walks every night & I've also been making changes in my diet. I know soda isn't exactly nutritious but regular soda is full of empty calories and fat so I have switched to Pepsi Max, which is actually pretty decent. It almost tastes exactly like regular only it has no calories or carbs.

I've also been buying foods lower in fat, cholesterol & calories of course and eating turkey meat instead of beef & let me tell you, it's starting to make a difference. Walking has given me more energy throughout the day & a change in diet is starting to make me feel better in energy and my weight. I think I'm finally losing weight, the pants are looser & now I don't get near as tired as I used to get.

I'm making slow and gradual changes but it's already made a difference & I know in time, I'll start seeing HUGE differences and I know I'm going to be better off and be able to live longer and it'll make me feel better emotionally. Small steps lead to bigger steps and bigger steps will make a better me. Plus I feel better than ever.

Hi Ramona - Glad to see that you are doing well and taking charge of things. Generally for us ostomates, any soda is not recommended because of the carbonation gas that is bloating... But we should enjoy life somehow. I am 7 weeks post op and eating foods I could not have for the past 15 years. :)

Thanks, most of the time soda doesn't give me a problem. Occasionally on rare occasions it will but most of the time no, the thing that gives me the most gas is chili lol

Hi Ramona

so glad you're feeling better and changing some things, I did this too when I came out of hospital, being told I nearly died put a whole different perspective on life! I'm priority now, me and my kids!
good for you, keep it up!
