Hi my name is Dejuan I am 37yrs old and I have had Crohns since I was 10. I currently have a colostomy which I have had since 04, it doesnt bother me at all. What is bothering me is the constant "dumping" I have been experiencing since 08. I have listened to my GI and nothing prescribed works . I have been on Prednisone, Bentyl, Probiotics, some grainy substance you take with juice nothing seems to slow it down. Immodium and Bentyl stops it for a few hours but that is it. And it can be quite painful during that brief period. I have to crush my pill in order to absorb them. If I drink or eat anything my bag fills up in no time flat, with evrything I have eaten undigested. This has been going on for 5years, I cant sleep , hold on to a job. I wont date or let anyone get close to me. I wont talk to my family and havent seen them in 5years also. I have thought soooo many times about suicide but wont because it is a sin. But I feel like Im dying anyway. The worst thing is I have been to my GI and to the ER begging for help. It seems like they are not listening, all they do is say take immodium and prescribe me Bentyl. IT DOES NOT WORK!!!! I am at my wits end. I need help and fast I cannot continue on livinvv life like this. My whole world has fallen apart, what else cam I do? I have no more fight left in me, no more will to go on. I pray every night that i dont wake up when I can sleep. I routinely take 4-8 immodium to slow things down and 6-8 benadryl to try to sleep 2 to 3 times a day. Help me please I am open to any suggestions. This is killing me literally.

I just want to say that I'm sorry you have to
Go through this. Have you gotten another opinion from a different GI or maybe even a nutritionist? Just some thoughts! Good luck to you!

Hi Dejuan, I'm sorry to hear of your problems. There are solutions so don't despair. I had a massive output with my last stoma and again with this one. So much that I was kept in hospital for ages because the doctors were worried about the amount.
Immodium and lomotil didn't work for me either but what has worked for me is amitriptyline. Its one of the older antidepressants that also is used for pain but it is great for us because it really slows down the gut. I now take 50mg at nigh and it has made a world of difference for me. The other benefit for you is that it will help you sleep. Ask your doctor and/or GI about it.
The other thing that helps me is apples. Whenever I eat one it slows right down. Sounds simple but they help enormously. Any soluble fibre will help so if you google soluble fibre you may get some other ideas that will help. i have found that apples are the best though. Metamucil will help too as it is a soluble fibre. Sounds contradictory since its a stool softener and used for constipation but what it does is absorb excess liquid from the gut and so slows it down. Try some of these suggestions and keep at your doctors about it as you shouldn't have to put up with this without help.
I'm also going to change the title of your post so that others can give there input into what works for them. Hang in there and let me know how you are going.
