Hello
My name is Eric and I have suffered with Crohns for the last 10 years and I have been through so many drugs I have lost count. I live in Southwest Ohio in a small bedroom community where I have been a Paramedic for the last 21 years and took over as the Chief of the department 10 years ago, I have 3 wonderful children a half decent ex wife and a wonderful girl friend. I started having problems in the 2002 I started having pain and cramping as well as going to the bathroom 10 to 12 times a day (try doing that as a paramedic, I knew every gas station and hospital bathroom in my area) I finally got so sick I was admitted to the hospital and spent 15 days in there while they got me rehydrated and worked on testing to find the problem They diagnosed me with colognes colitis. I was put on Asecol prednisone, 6 mertapurine and they worked for years I had to have 3 rectal fistulas fixed I 2005. The GI I had was very proactive, but when I brought up that the diagnosis did not fit the symptoms he told me it effected people differently. I worked well with those drugs until 2010 then I went into a major flare and I haven’t stopped yet I had another colonoscopy with new biopsies showing heavy crohns and they believe I was misdiagnosed in 2002. I am on Humira 2 shots a month Pentasa Lomtil Imuran these drugs are not working and my current GI is not real helpful, I have asked about a surgical option and he said it’s out of the question he is very anti surgery. I have a great deal of pain and I go to the bath room 7 to 9 times a day and its all liquid. For the first time since getting this stupid problem is it affecting my job up till 2011 with the excepting of when I was hospitalized in 2002 have I missed work, but so far this year I have missed almost 20 day’s due to being hospitalized for the pain and day’s where I just can’t function. I can tell that my mental attitude has changed and I sometimes feel like the depression is taking over, my minister has been a great help in this and I use him a lot as a sounding board, plus I have an outstanding staff that goes above and beyond to help me. I joined this group so I could see what other treatments are out there and to have a place to ask questions of other who understand where I’m coming from as well as be a sounding board for other. I am getting a 2nd opinion at IU medical center in Indy this mouth if anyone has been to the IU GI department I would love to hear how it went for you and if you feel you had any success with their treatments. Ok that’s me
