Does anyone have a medic ID bracelet for your child? Someone recommended it to us and I am not sure if it is necessary. I am thinking it might be a good thing to have if his disease is really active and he is out at an activity that we won't be at. That doesn't happen much at his age but I was wondering if any of you had any experiences that you encountered that it was useful?

Thanks for your input!

We don't. The only time she isn't with me is when she is with a sitter or at school. I have a bag with wipes, a change of clothing that I send with her and I have a tag on the outside of it with her dietary restrictions on it. She knows what to eat and what not to eat, and all of the adults who care for her know how important it is for her to get to a br aasap.

Not a bracelet, just a CVS USB Medical Card that fits in your wallet. I also plan on getting a tattoo that has the Crohn's ribbon so they know I have it if I ever get in an accident.

I have never found the need with my two but I wouldn't have hesitated if I had thought it necessary.

I guess thinking about Sarah, since she has had it for 5 years, I don't think she was ever in a situation that she wasn't with people that weren't aware of her condition. I have thought about if they were ever in an accident but there isn't anything, meds etc, that would contraindicate any treatment. Also, since they have both had surgery I would imagine (read hope!) that it may make a doctor stop and at least question what may be in their history when they see the scars! :eek2:

I have one for Lucas. Its not so much the disease but the meds that I am worried about. And if I amm not there I definately want them to know this information. He doesn't wear it all the time but to concerts and stuff, I don't even have to tell him.

I got one for my as a present for my nephew and he loves it. I'd just try to get one that doesn't look like a typical hospital bracelet because he probably won't wear it when he gets older (pending on how old he is now of course). Hope Paige Medical ID has a great selection of some that are specifically for boys. Hope that helps! :)

Those are some cool medical bracelets on that website erinever. Like others said, at my age I don't really see any time where I would need one because I don't find crohns to be something that would make you unconscious. Those usb cards people talk about seem to be pretty helpful though.

The way I see it, the only time someone would be looking for a medical bracelet is in an emergency and you are unconcious. Crohns is a bugger, and so are the meds, but I dont see any of them being life threatening if you miss them nor will they react to other meds etc

Only difference is poss steroids, but a card in your wallet/purse will be good enough. 1st aiders and paramedics are taught to go through your belonings to find out info

Not sure if you've gotten the medical bracelet yet or not. But, I usually carry 2 medical cards on me. One on myself and the other next to my DL. I print mine off free from MedID's.com. They have a place situated that you can fill out your info and print them on your printer. Hope this helps.

Thanks Cross-stitch gal that actually helps a lot. I have realized that the main reason to have one is the Prednisone. Apparently it can affect emergency treatment even for a while after you have been off. I will print one up tomorrow!

Thanks!

No problem. Glad to help! I too have been on Prednisone twice and recently got off this bout of it as of 11/11. Hopefully your son will be able to eventually get off the stuff as well. In the meantime take care:)
