Hi there-
I was diagnosed with Crohn's in Oct 2015 and have had 2 hospitalizations. I have been on prednisone, but have recently stopped that and I am on 6-mp and Humira. I noticed that the texture of my hair is dry and almost looking like split ends. I have used a ton of oil and nothing is making it look better. It almost looks as though I burned my hair with a flat iron. Has anyone had the same experience? Steroids? 6-mp? Going to show my GI doc next week when I see him.

HI Rah,
My hair became that same way but i think a lot had to do with age. Once you hit mid 30's your hair goes to sh*t.

I know most of our meds can exhasperate the problem. My hair $uck$. :/

We dont appear to be on the same meds.

Ok good to know. I hope it goes back to normal since I'm now off the steroids!

I used to have great hair, now not so much. It could be a number of factors. I think mine thinned when I was on prednisone. It also thins and becomes unhealthy when I'm flaring badly. It's hard to get the nutrients needed for healthy hair. Factor all this together with the natural thinning of your hair as you age. I take biotin daily which may help.

I am 59. I sometimes think my hair is thinning. I don't know whether to blame it on age, the fact that I had a lesion in my scalp( from Remicade) which had to be removed surgically or Imuran.

Try taking Biotin 1000mg tablet once daily. I'm 56 and have a full beard and hair. Biotin has improved my hair and beard quite a bit, it even returned the shiny stainless steel look although it is brittle in winter. I used have very dry dull brittle hair and I was afraid to groom my beard and hair given how much would break off. It will take a few months for the biotin to start working and it is not expensive. I have been on Remicade for a couple of months and am still waiting for the dreaded hair loss, but so far so good.

I believe this has to do with malnutrition/malabsorbtion that is caused by the disease. Are you taking any vitamins? Maybe you should ask your doctor if he can prescribe you some.
