HI guys. I would like to know if the folic acid is taken before the injection. And is it normal for the medication to be in one bottle, I thought ithat was going to be pre measured.

They should have shown you how to give an injection
They do make pre filled pens
But most are vials that need to be drawn up
They need to show you how to clean the vial
And draw up the needle properly

Mtx with preservatives is only good for 28 days or less
Once the vial is punctured

Ones without preservative are only good for one use

Folic acid is typically given every day including shot day
Ds takes his twice a day
1 mg in am
And 1 mg in pm

Yes, second what mlp said.
They should have shown you.
If they didn't, they should be made too.

Your pediatrician's office can probably teach you - ours did, because we didn't want to make the trip to the children's hospital. It's easy, but you do need someone to teach you.

There are pre-filled pens of MTX available but I believe they are only approved for juvenile idiopathic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis so far. You could try getting them off-label, but it may not work because they're most likely more expensive.

My daughters took folic acid every day - in the morning. After my younger one had side effects with MTX, her dose was increased from 1 mg a day to 2 mg a day.

We were told not to take folic acid on the shot day as it can interfere with absorption.

folic acid on mtx shot day is controversial
Some rheumo say absolutely not to take it
Others say it doesn't make a difference

Our rheumo stated that for his patients he prefers they take folic acid on everyday of the week.

Leucovorin however does affect the amount of mtx (it is given as a rescue drug when mtx is used in chemo etc...)
It needs to be taken at least 12 hours after the mtx shot and then can be given again at 24 hours
