Mezavant dosage

I've just been put on Mezavant and I thought the consultant said I was to take a pill twice a day. I've just noticed the sticker on the box says to take two pills twice a day. They're 1200 mg pills so that would mean taking 4800 mg a day. Does that sound right, bearing in mind that I've also just been put on 40 mg of pred to taper down over the next couple of months? The only thing concerning me is that I can't remember clearly what the consultant said...

I'm on 2 pills twice a day, however I know that is the dosage for inducing remission, and you are suppose to go down to 1, 2 times a day for maintenance. Once you are past the initial inducing remission that sounds fine. Alternatively your docs may have decided since your on other meds the lower dose is preferable. I would give a quick call to your doctor and just ask. Or ask your pharmacist what dosage your docs prescribed.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me FrozenGirl. I'm going to take two pills twice daily (now I know it's not a crazy overdose amount!) and phone my doctor or the IBD nurse on Monday to double check the dosage.
