Reading,
Hi everyone.

so I was shocked when I went to the toilet this morning and noticed quite a lot of blood on the toilet paper. I was so shocked I dropped it into the toilet.

At first I thought it was rectal, and I was worried because It was a lot for rectal bleeding. And I don't have any symptoms atm. It wasn't until I thought "its like being on my period" When I thought, maybe its vaginal?

Its hard to tell as you know when you have been in bed all night it does go everywhere but I think its vaginal.

I was only on my period last week. I'm on the pill and I've taken it so far this month for 7 days. I have had mid month bleeding before but not this much. Is it normal or if not normal common??

Hey, I can't say if it's normal for you, but I know all birth control pills can cause bleeding at unexpected times. Also have you had vomiting or diarrhoea recently? If you've have, that can sometimes mean the pill isn't absorbed properly, so your body can act as if it's time for your period (as usually a week without the pill once a month is when bleeding starts). If there were clots it's more likely to be vaginal than rectal. If it's rectal it could well be haemorrhoids (which can produce a lot of blood) or some other innocuous cause.

Most likely this is something harmless - but if you want to be certain obviously you'd need an examination by a doctor.

Thank you unxmas.

I'm fairly sure it is vaginal since it is still coming fairly lightly throughout the day - not related to when I go to the toilet. I think I was just shocked because it was suddenly quite a lot of blood, where if I have had it before it was more like how they describe it as "spotting".

I haven't had any diarrhoea or vomiting before the bleeding occurred but I have had some diarrhoea since.

I also take birth control and occasionally have breakthrough bleeding at unexpected times or heaver than normal flows. I also noticed a change in my flow after my first flare.

If it persists it's worth talking to your gyno about and seeing if there is a connection between crohn's or if it is simply your birth control causing the problem.

I JUST saw my ob today. I have had mid montg break thru bleeding and pain. He's hoping "the change"' I will go for am ultra sound to confirm. I don't know. So, maybe it's just you new normal?

I just had it again! Exactly like when I posted on here before, one week after my period.

I thought I posted this last month, but the dates say it was two months ago.

Strange!

Hi,

Did you figure out what this was? When you are on the pill and taking it regularly, bleeding usually only occurs when you take the sugar pills/the days without taking pills. But some types of pills have a different combination of hormones, so it could be that this is normal on the pill you are taking. Did you just change prescription, or just start on the pill? If so, then that could be an explanation. Sometimes sex can make you see a little blood, too, some people easily bleed from the cervix/mucosal membranes (I think) when having sex. So that would also be a normal kind of bleeding (as long as it's just a little bloody discharge). What kind of bleeding is it? Is it a small period, is it just regular blood like from a cut, or is it watery? I really hope you figure out what this could be, as it is always worrying when you start bleeding outside your period. :(

I have had this same problem several times, but I am not on the pill, so it is not really comparable. :/ In my case I have had bleeding/discharge mid-month, maybe six months in a row, and then it has disappeared. It came back again this spring, but I don't have it now. The doctors haven't found anything irregular, and they can't explain what it is. I'm thinking it could be ovulation bleeding, but I have no idea why it comes and goes as it does.

Really hope you are feeling well, and that everything is back to normal with you!

Big hugs,

Thanks for replying!

I have not worked out what this is yet. It does seem like normal beginning or end of period bleeding, fairly thick and gloopy, and lasting for a few days.

My next period is starting today, so I will see if I bleed again in just over a week's time.

Hi Miss Valentine, this sounds like a strange question but are you on any other medication for your Crohns at the moment? I used to find that when I was on Methotrexate, I would have my period then another one in two weeks time and then it would go a full month before my next one and then two weeks again and so on.
