Blech! Ugh! The kids, MIL, and I went to Wasilla today to have dinner with my parents. My mother made potato salad, fruit salad, and dad grilled a London Broil and some ribs. Instead of having potato salad, I ate a baked potato with sour cream. I didn't eat that much, but I'm feeling yucky now.

I am worried that I'm starting to flare-up again. My hands/fingers are cracking, my joints are aching, and I'm getting horrible cramping pains. I'm wondering what I did to bring this on? I started feeling yucky the last day of school which was two days ago. I'm so sick of my nasty, tempermental gut! Oh the pain and the nausea!

I think we sometimes spend too much time and energy blaming ourselves and thinking about how we ate something wrong to set things off, when in fact it was just going to happen. Hope you feel better and things don't progress. :))

Doesn't sound like the Pentasa is doing enough for you. Flaring regularly, pain, and nausea suggest your Crohn's is not under control. Are you talking to your consultant about it?

I agree with littlemissh!

I always used to start getting bad stomach pains more often and would blame it on drinking a cup of hot tea or what ever else I'd eaten before, when really, it's just because I wasn't well and it would of happened regardless.

Infact, it got so bad (I was only about 12/13 at the time) that I started carrying this toy thing I got out of a cereal packet around with me, and I used to think that if I squeezed it hard enough, I wouldn't get a stomach ache. Of course, it was a silly coping mechanism. But my point is, as you already know, there is no way of controlling these things sometimes. No matter what you eat.

So don't be so hard on yourself and make an appointment to see your GI soon! Better to catch these things before they get worse. x

Yep i agree, not your fault at all.

As the saying goes "you have to listen to thunder" , in other words you have no option in regard to changing the outcome, its just gonna happen.

Of course to back it up it may be something you ate a week previous, some stuff take ages to get through the guts?

Good luck anyway

Hey Andi
It's so hard to know sometimes if, when you feel ill, it's due to the Crohn's or something else entirely. I was laid up with bad D and cramping all day yesterday. Not sure if it's due to some spinach I ate the day before. Or the day before that, I was naughty because I'd been feeling better, and had some roast potatoes and stuffing cos I was cooking it for my son!! Like Bruscar says, 'difficult' foods will back up and I think it might have been the potato as I've not been eating them for a while.
Then again, it might just have been a tummy bug cos there is one going around. But like Beth says, if it's happening regularly, it's more likely to be the Crohn's. Won't do any harm to go see your doc, will it?
Hope you feel better soon.
Helen x

Hiya Andi

It is true, sometimes inflammation will strike whether you've eaten something or not!
Are you still on 3mg Entocort? Maybe this needs fine tuning?
I'd give the doc a ring, you don't have to suffer needlessly like this.
hope you feel better soon

Feel better Andi! If I'm not mistaken, this didn't just start. I think you mentioned feeling poorly a few days ago. Get on top of it!! Good luck!

Thank you! I just finished the Entocort, but I'm afraid that I might need to go back on, or take Prednisone. I had a stretch of feeling good, where I was eating fine. I didn't go overboard, but I think there may have been some items that have blocked me up. I know this is weird, but I wonder if allergies (the seasonal kind) can cause CD to flare-up more. My friend at work with CD, Randy, and I are all flaring-up now. I know Randy and I both have seasonal allergies, allergies in general, and hay fever. Who knows? If anything the inflammation from the allergies triggers the inflammation in the gut. Just a wild guess. I will make an appointment. I hate this!

My allergies have been so much better since I'm on Humira. Over time they gradually got worse, I was using hayfever steroid sprays from march through to november, and preventer for asthma similarly. Still haven't felt the need for either this year.

I hope you can stop this flare before it gets any worse, Andi.

Did you phone your GI, yet?

Oh Andi, you cant blame yourself for eating something as the others have said. As for allergies, they produce a histimine respone, which causes inflammation. Oi veh do I know! They have rape plants all over the UK right now and they drive me around the bend with allergies! Which does...guess what??? Cause me to start a bit of a flare!

Your stress with MIL and other things is probably not helping in the least either! Please get a handle on it ASAP at the Dr's.

Andi, sorry to hear you're not doing too well. As for the allergies thing, it could very well be. Someone on the forum once told me that the intestines have the second highest amount of histamine receptors in the body, so allergies can have a very real effect on the intestines! I think it was Crohnically Stinky who told me that, and he said that Claritin helped him keep his intestines in check for years. So, it can't hurt to try treating the allergies and see if that in turn brings your guts under control. Good luck and let us know how you're doing!

I blame all the stress you've been under. That'd put anyone into a flare! Hope you get it under control and feel better. Goodness knows you deserve it!

I'm with Nicole ^^!!! It's the two month visit from your MIL that's done it to you!!

Get better soon!! - Ames

Thank you for all the kind comments. I am feeling a little better now that I'm taking an allergy pill regularly. It's also stronger than the one I was taking before. I was put back on Entocort, but my doctor said if the symptoms persist or get worse, it's back to Prednisone, and he may put me on another round of Flagyl. Oh joy!

I think stress and allergies have contributed to this flare-up. I think I have two more weeks until the MIL goes home. The kids and I recently got back from Wasilla. I spent a relaxing day with my mom. My dad and one of my nieces were thrilled to be around the kids also. I really needed some time with just my family. I hope my MIL enjoyed the silence. I have already suggested shorter visits. We'll see how it goes.
