Missing a dose

H is on weekly Humira injections. A nurse does them using a vial/adapter/syringe package. We are travelling out of country and will miss an injection. The Humira rep that I spoke with wasn't helpful.
I'm considering skipping a dose. Anyone done this?

We have done it due to severe infection ( mastoiditis )
Given H isn't doing well
Can't you take it with you and do the shot yourself ??
I understand you may not like giving her the shot but ...
We do that all the time

When we did it last April ds went into a full flare required steriods for three months plus EEN
Would not recommend it. At all especially if she isn't stable

Could you learn and give her one shot? It's no fun, I'll admit, but you could give her an extra treat to make up for it (dessert was always a must at our house).

We have taken biologics with us to many countries - England, India, Germany and recently, Mexico. It's a bit of a pain, but not too bad. We take them on board with ice and they stay cold -- even on a 14 hour flight to India! We get a doctor's note so TSA does not bother us and they never have.

I don't know about your kiddo, but if we are even one day late, both my girls really feel it.

Both my girls have had to miss shots in the past for infections/wisdom teeth surgery and both really flared. My older daughter just missed two Humira shots before she flared and that flare eventually led to a med change. That's obviously one of the worst case scenarios, but it was no fun.

Those experiences have made me VERY wary of skipping even one shot.

sorry, given her recent scope results I wouldn't miss a dose.

Also, without levels and antibodies results missing a dose risks more antibidy formation. One week usually not that much but if she is already building antibodies I wouldn't tempt fate.

If giving the shot yourself isn't an option, perhaps injecting early and just amending the schedule going foward? I know we have done that with remicade. O was on every 5 weeks but because of a trip we did infusion at 4 and then continued at 5 from there.

The Humira rep suggested that I do it myself then sent me a pen injection video even though I was clear that we don't use pens.
I'm going to see if the clinic nurse can show me next week. I've never seen her load the syringe as she just calls us when it's ready.
H is weekly. I could move it three days later but would have to stay on a Thursday afterwards, I think?
She's never had the shot in her thigh or abdo and doesn't (capital D) want it in either place.
But, this stuff is not impossible if we could avoid an all out flare. Thanks for letting me know what had happened with your kids after missed doses. Experience is the best teacher.

I know she is against it, but if you can convince her to try it in her thigh or tummy, it might REALLY help.

When my daughter had the loading dose, she had 4 shots together and one went in her arm and she said that was by far the most painful one.

Worth trying, if you can convince her (I know her stubborn kids are though!!).

If you move it back 3 days, you'd probably have to keep it on that schedule.

If you move it back three days that is only 4 days between shots and if your gone a week or more ...
Honestly it's a good thing to learn
Loading the syringe is probably Just drawing up the dose from the vial
I draw up the lidocaine every week from a vial then injected it into the back humira

It's not bad
Good luck
