Missing shot of Methotrexate

My son is vacationing with his dad a thousand miles away from me. I sent all medications necessary for his trip, including two doses of his methotrexate injection. We give him the shot every Friday evening.

Well he was supposed to travel back on Friday the 9th and so I figured I would give him the shot when he got home (I did not pack enough for this day). Low and behold he is not coming home now till Monday the 12th.

I know I probably shouldn't, but I was just going to have him skip that dose and start back on track the following Friday. Is this a bad thing to do? I think it would take more to deal with trying to call in to a pharmacy down there, pay more for it when I have it already at home. Then it throws him completely off schedule if I do it on the Monday.

Opinions anyone? Can he miss just one dose and if so, does it affect him in many ways?

Thanks!

ERGH! Don't you love when men mess with the plans? O missed her oral dose of Mtx once and they told us to take it the next day and then the following week go back to our original day.

I probably wouldn't wait a whole week but call the GI and see what they say.

"If you miss your dose, you can take it the next day safely. Then, resume your normal weekly routine. If it has been more than 1-2 days, wait until your next weekly scheduled dose. As long as this does not happen regularly, you will likely not feel any ill effects." http://www.edmontonrheumatology.com/medications/methotrexate.html

That's mainly for RA, not Crohn's so I'm hoping that you were able to contact his doctor and let them know what happened. Keep us posted. :)

I am not telling you to miss a dose (I am not a GI), but Ryan has missed a week before and he was fine. This was when he was on Mtx only and his bloodwork was fine.

I would talk to the GI if you are concerned about it. No reason to stress all week.
