I am conducting this pole to see if there is any anecdotal evidence that the time of the year you were born has a correlation to the likelihood of having an autoimmune disease such as Crohn's.

The hypothesis is that children born with a lack of exposure to sunlight or sufficient Vitamin D early in life have a greater instance of autoimmune disease.

Please select the appropriate time of year.

Thank you.

voted, Dan.

but in my case i don't think there's a connection.. i was a summer baby and spent most of my childhood & early teen years outside playing.

I was born December 26th .. weird I'm the only christmas time baby but then again it doesn't appear I have Crohns now.

March for me.

Apparently I was supposed to be an April fool but decided I was a big enough clown and arrived early! LOL

August 22 -- and grew up on the beach in CA. Plenty of sun for me as a kid! (and plenty of dysplastic moles removed as an adult... *sigh*)

May 30th for me!

Spent a lot of time outdoors as a kid, but not so much now. Unfortunately I work inside. Sometimes I wish I could have a job outside.

February 21. But I live in Lebanon, which is a Mediteranean country, so we have like 300 days of sun, and I spent lots of time outside or on the beach.

I was also breast fed for a year!!!

My last Vit D blood test showed 33, which my doctor said is normal but it's optimal to have at 40. So he gave me Calcium/Vit D capsules;but they cause me belly discomfort so I stopped taking them..

To further confuse the issue, here is the opposing view from Trevor Marshall. This theory states that too much D allows bacteria to spread throughout the body, as certain forms of D are actually steroids, or have steroid like effects.

No one can say I am not "fair and balanced".

Do you ever just want to throw your hands in the air and scream?

Hmm, today when I was browsing the American Journal of Gastroenterology website, I noticed an article called "Monthly and Seasonal Birth Patterns and the Occurrence of Crohn's Disease". Too bad I'd have to pay $18 to read it...But it's still interesting to know that doctors are looking for correlations here as well.

what?! i had posted here but now it doesnt show up!
oh well.

im january- same as danman and MBH! and was late. was supposed to be a christmas baby!

spent a good long tim outside as a kid too. "go play outside" was the go to command when my brother and i werent doing anything.

July baby

july 25 1974
I also breast fed for a year. A chinese friend said i have to much fire in me because of my exact birthday who know's.C

I voted too. February 14th here. I don't know about sun exposure in the first 2 years, I'd have to ask my parents. We moved to Japan when I was 4 months old. But then after that we were in California .. so good sun there.

Yeah, I think I fit the typical Aquarian too. :) I'll have to go find it and read it again to see, but I read it before and thought it sounded a lot like me.

Not really. Remember that human gestation time is 9 months, not 12. It's more prom, summer vacation, etc for the high school and college kids that make up the vast majority of it. It's also wedding season when older couples toss out the birth control.

There's also a spike around August for Christmas vacation. Basically any time students aren't in school they're making babies.

So Pen, are you proposing the solution to overpopulation is TV? I like it. Don't feed the children, entertain them! :)

Born in May, about a month early, and spent the first several days under a UV light. Always outside when I was a kid. Now being in the sun and/or heat drains me of all energy. I can literally feel my energy leaving my body. When I'm in the sun for too long, I get rashes on my arms and legs and my face gets bright pink on the cheeks and nose (I have the lupus sign in that respect, but negative ANA). I do get outside when it's not too hot though. In the winter, I avoid the outdoors like the plague! I hate the cold.

30 in August...lots of outside as growing up, love the sun! Hate the cold, but snow is gorgeous...for a little while.

There was a total black out here and state of emergency last year, now there are babies being born? Amazing what can happen when there is no TV on lol.
its funny how tha works:lol: september by the way:ymad:

I can;t imagine this would be all that relevant on this forum because we all live in different countries?

Perhaps a What season you were born survey would be more suitable?

I was born in November in Ireland which makes that coming into winter but here in NZ that's summer.

I still think there is likely a pale-skin link as we tend to avoid the sun so not to get burned - I had a few lobster experiences as a kid with a delicate irish complexion growing up in New Zealand, right under the hole in the ozone?

hey same day as me

June and I grew up on the beach in Orange County. Didn't get me crohn's but it did get my a high probability of skin cancer lol

April baby here. Grew up in sunny California and was diagnosed when I was 9. Sun twas not a factor. I think mine is mainly hereditary since my parents are both carriers.

Born in September in Michigan.Northern Michigan longer winters shorter summers.LOL.But we played wether it was snowing or shining. We lived by the lake.

Roo was born 13th February, it was a Thursday so can't blame the whole Black Friday thing, and being topsy turvy that makes her a summer baby.

PS I'm confused! LOL. If I vote she will be a winter baby won't she?

I'm just a June baby, should have been May but kept mum waiting for two weeks. By the way June is winter for us.

Outside as a kid alot- but also sick a lot especially as baby, toddler, young children etc

October baby in Sunny Florida! I went to the beach a lot as a child, so I don't think it affected me.

I was born on July 25. I grew up in Alaska. Here in America/Northern Hemisphere, I'm a summer baby; from the, "Land of the Midnight Sun."

well born in June but with you on the Vit D things. got mine tested by the doc and he was amazed how low it was. I think he said the highest and lowest acceptable levels were like 3000 and 500 and mine was around 6. tested thrice!

One upping you...Christmas Day! December 25, 1986, 6 am too. Mom say I was the best baby ever never cried for anything...she had to remeber to feed me cause I wouldn;t even cry to eat.
