I am in a ton of pain and scheduled to have an MRE done. Is this effective for showing the extent of stricture? I never had this test done but don't want more radiation.

I am also petrified of being in a coffin for an hour and a half I don't know how I'll calm down. Mostly I just wanna know the test is effective.

From what I understand, Magnetic Resonance does not produce nearly as much radiation as Computed Tomography. In fact, I don't think it produces radiation at all.

I've heard of this test from my doctor and she says it is just as effective as CTE.

From my research it can be very effective!

I just posted my recent MRE experience on another thread. My procedure took less than an hour, although I do admit that I thought "I could use some valium!" when they slide me inside the machine. Talk to your doctor the effectiveness and about your anxiety, maybe you'll be prescribed something take something to help relaxation. Find out if you can bring your favorite music to be played during the procedure. There are a variety of sized machines, check out different facilties to find the set up you would be most comfortable at.

By the way... There is no radiation exposure, hopefully that will help ease your mind!

Ct enterography is a CAT scan with oral contrast and- if ordered- IV contrast at the same time.
Radiation is involved.
MRI ---Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses the magnetron and no radiation is involved.
All metals must be excluded though because of the magnetic field and you will be asked if you have any metal implants(iesome hip replacements contain metal) or if you have ever been shot ---etc.
It is straightforward , a bit noisy and the space is a bit confining.
If you are claustrophobic let the docs know so that arrangements can be made for sedation ahead of your appointment.
This is a good method of identifying normal and abnormal structures, without involving radiation exposure.
Some MRI scanners may allow you to take in your disc music.
