MRE Showed Strictures and I've Been in Bad Pain

I have been having pain on my upper and middle left side since last August. My Dr. ordered an MRE a couple of months ago and it showed strictures on my right side. The pain just keeps getting worse on my left side and is accompanied with nausea, loss of appetite (I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks) along with weakness and fatigue. I also have trouble passing stool which I have never had before.

I will start to feel good and get an appetite and then I will eat quite a bit and be sick with pain for 2-3 days with no appetite and this has been happening for about 2 months. Each time the pain starts it is always worse than the time before. (I just spent 2 days in bed with excruciating pain and Tramadol doesn't help).

Having a difficult time passing stool has been going on for about 3 weeks.

Could the pain on my left side be as a result of the strictures on my right side?

Thanks.

I would call your doctor or go to the emergency room if it gets unbearable. You may have a partial obstruction where there was stricturing before.
Hope you feel better soon

The Dr. told me a couple of weeks ago when he did scopes that I call the office too much. Whenever I call, I never get to talk to him only a nurse. The nurse is treating me like I am a bother. He is a Crohns specialist and he isn't convinced I have Crohns although I was diagnosed in 2007 by a different Dr. I have been going to him since August. I am ready to go somewhere else.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!!!!

If a doctor tells you that you call to much, about the disease that HE is treating you for, then yea. I would consider switching too. For the time being, I guess your best option would be to go to the E.R. next time it gets bad.
So, I'm curious. if he isn't convinced you have Crohn''s, what does he think you do have? Obviously something you have inflammation and stricturing. That doesn't just happen.

Afidz - Thanks a bunch for the input.

Also for a week or so besides having the pain on the left side, everytime I eat something fatty I get real sick with nausea and pain. Does fat intolerance occur in Crohn's patients? I never had anything like it before.

Thanks.

Do you have a regular, general doctor? Maybe you should go see that person if the GI's office isn't helping you and tell them about your symptoms to see if the regular doctor has any other ideas. And I would ask for a referral to a different GI doctor.

If you have very severe pain (cannot stand or walk, talk or do much of anything besides lay on the bed crying due to the pain) and it lasts for more than a very short period of time you should go to ER if possible.

The fatty food sounds more like gallbladder issues but I am no doctor so it could be something else.

I didn't think if gal bladder, but it could be that as will. Either way you need to see a doctor that will listen to you

I got a copy of my MRE results from October.

Does anyone know what this means:

"There is no bowel obstruction or abnormal dilation. The ileum and distal colon are entirely collapsed. There is persistent 6-cm segment of distal ileum immedilately proximal to the terminal ileum with underdistention, and apparent wall thickening and hyper enchancement. There is a separate longer segment in the mid ileum involving approx. 30-cm of bowel with a similar appearance of non-distension, apparent wall thickening and hyper enhancement. There is no signifiicant dilation proximal to this segment or between the two segments. There is no evidence of active inflammation."

I have pain on my left side since this MRE was done and it keeps getting worse. My Dr. wants to do a pill cam. I am changing Drs.

Crabby, can you interpret her MRE results? I can take a guess, but I would rather not

jac521 I'm going to be honest with you, that's a lot of stuff to look up. I hate doctor lingo. I bet they have a cheat sheet they use. :p I'll share what I have so far though.

Collapsed means that there's no air or waste passing through. Its pushed out all it can. Thus far the only cause that I found for that to happen is a blockage yet your report says there was none. Since you have two strictures, my guess is that you may be dealing with partial blockages from time to time which can cause pain, nausea etc. Very similar to a full blockage but the difference is that you still pass some stool.

Wall thickening would mean scar tissue as it says that there's no active inflammation. Although I wouldn't go by just one test alone. If you do have a pill cam done make sure you take the fake/dummy pill first which dissolves just in case it were to get stuck since you do have two strictures (would be best to avoid needing the real one surgically removed).

Crabby - Thanks!!

I don't know how reliable this MRE is. It states that my gallbladder is normal - I don't have one. It states my uterus is normal - don't have one.

Oh wow... Its not the test that's the problem, its the person reading the results of the images. What did your GI say when you told them that? I mean you can't take a test like that seriously if they were clearly making stuff up. Unless your surgeon screwed up in the past and never removed anything, but I doubt that.

Crabby - I just asked for and received via email from the Dr's. office the MRE results which were done in Oct. I never got a chance to tell the Dr. as I fired him.

Also after my colonoscopy a few weeks ago, I was given another patient's discharge summary instead of mine, stating the Drs. findings from her colonoscopy. I called a nursing supervisor in the colonoscopy unit and she didn't even care what had happened.

Wow Jac521
How frustrating! Would you consider switching hospitals? It sounds like they aren't taking their job seriously. And you recieving someone elses records is a huge HIPPA violation, what if they gave out your records to someone by mistake??

I'd report that for sure. Who knows, maybe those MRE results aren't really yours either even if your name is at the top. :/

aidz - They evidently gave my records to the other person as well because I didn't have mine, only her's. I fired the Dr. and am not going to that hospital anymore. They didn't even care when I told them what had happened.

Crabby - Since I am not going to the Dr. or Hospital that did that MRE who do I report it to?

I am really angy and frustrated.
