I was diagnosed with CD last year, my symptoms were frequent D (no bleeding at all) and mild stomach pains. Blood tests and stool tests were done in order to rule out any infections. Initially my GI ran a colonoscopy and the biopsy result showed CD at the terminal ileum. So my GI kept me on pentasa (for 3 months), prednisone(for 3 months) and azathioprine till date.He asked for an MRE around 3 moths after the colonoscopy was done and fortunately he did not find any issues( we were surprised). So he asked me to go for a colonoscopy a year later which is in 10 days now. My symptoms have been gone (since my meds course was over) and never got them back although not on any kind of diet (I eat and drink whatever i feel like) and i smoke around 4 to 5 cigarettes per day, drink alcohol like twice a month or so. So my question is could it be a misdiagnosis? Please let me know what you guys think.Thanks.:confused2:

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like you are in remission. That's a good thing.

hey DJW
So that does not mean being misdiagnosed? how could MRE be fine and no symptoms just after 3 months of using medications? and if this time colonoscopy comes out fine does it still mean i have CD?
thanks for the help :)

I always root for a misdiagnosis!

My son had an MRE two weeks after a coloscopy that confirmed Crohn's. MRE was normal. Scopes and biopsies indicated Crohn's.

thanks momtotow :)
what about the symptoms then? I never had any rectal bleedings, all my symptoms were mild. I just had frequent D and mild stomach episodic pains. To top that I was never on any kind of diet. Just wondering if my second colonoscopy result and the biopsies come out fine indicates no CD or not?

I'm going off the fact the specialist diagnosed you. If their is no sign of cd then remission is more likely than misdiagnosis. I had years of remission. Everything looked good. I had surgery for an adhesion. The doctor ran the bowel. No sighn of CD.

For your own piece of mind talk to the doctor about it.

This is one of the very decieving thing with CD. No symptoms could mean remission but it could also mean inflammation doing silent damage. Regular follow up with the GI is critical even when you feel good. Your tests were clean so I think you're in remission.

CD can go dormant via meds or even spontaneously for years at a time. I went 9 years on no meds with a couple of normal scopes in between as well, also on a regular diet. Some are actually lucky enough to be one and done with CD. I thought I might have been one of those, but it came back. Enjoy the current state of affairs. Hopefully it continues, but it doesn't mean what they found beforehand was wrong.

My daughter is what they call asymptomatic. She never bleeds, at her worst she goes only 3 times to the toilet, she does not suffer from pain, no problems with food. It will be wonderful if you were misdiagnosed but just to be on the safe side keep up with your Doctors appointments and have your test done. It is nice not to have all of the ugly symptoms of Crohn's but the bad part is you can have damage without knowing.

Thanks guys. I am going for my 2nd colonoscopy on Tuesday and I hope everything will look fine:ysmile: Hope everyone of us get rid of Crohn`s one day soon :thumleft::smile:
