I don't know if this is the right place for this...I think it is!

I've got an MRI early tomorrow morning, but haven't really been given much advice on what I need to do. Its checking out my bowels, and thats more or less all I know except I'll need to drink a solution before the actual scan.

Does anyone know any more details? Am I allowed to eat before hand??

Doctors ey! Never tell you anything... :ybatty:

Hiya Tess!

I don't know if you've checked out our wiki or not yet, but there's lots of good info in there with a couple of videos and a first-hand account some bozo put in there. ;)

I can't recall if they limited my diet beforehand or not. I don't believe so, because I seem to remember when they give you the stuff to "clean you out." :D

I'm not 100% on that though. Best phone your doc either way.

Bust of luck tomorrow!

Just had an MRI today. They sent me 2 letters, one saying that i needed to fast the other saying not to fast. I decided better to fast, so i went to the appt starving. They told me i didnt need to fast for this type of MRI. They are all different tho. I had my bf get me something while i was waiting. Id bring a snack in your bag just in case. They also gave me an iv, and i ended up in the machine for like 45 mins. My MRI was just on my pelvic area tho....good luck!!!

90% of the scans for bowel are fasting , especially if you are drinking barium prior to and having an iv with contrast as well. I only know of them cleaning you out for colonoscopies, endoscopies and invasve procedures. They need your bowels clear so that the barium will displace any abnormalities and make them more prominent on the scan. Good luck!! - hugs -

Thanks everyone :) think I'll just take the safe bet and fast until I get there then ask. I'll bring something to nibble on just in case.

Oh how I can't wait to be in a clunking tube haha :p

January?! Why will it take so long? I had mine almost right away, to be fair i was in the hospital so there was a sense of urgency... but January..sheesh.

Anyway i hope everything comes back positive!

All the best

Gianni

Wow. Best of luck on the results. In the meantime, keep your head held high and good spitits! - hugs-

january?/ at the least you should get an appointment with your doc to find out what the scan showed a lot earlier than that

Thank you everyone :) I thought it was a little mad to make me wait til January too, but I'm good at nagging doctors, so I'm sure I'll find out sooner. Or else :p
