Hi all.

Mine is a pretty minority question but I guess that this is as good a place as any to try to get some input.

In the past, I've had 3 resections for Crohns, scarring mainly, and afterwards, I've been fairly okay. I had my 4th last March and things are pretty different to my recovery in the past.

I should say to start that my surgeon isn't too impressed with how much bowel I have left - and I honestly don't know where it all went, but there we go. Post my latest surgery which wasn't too much of a problem in itself (how flippant I've become ), I had a pretty good bout of ileus for which I was re-admitted to hospital and it resolved in a week or so.

The thing is that in the intervening time, I don't really feel I've come on very much and don't really feel that far away from another bout of ileus even now. After eating almost anything (and I tend to graze rather than eat any kind of big meal), I get bouts of severe indigestion and if belching was an olympic sport, I'd be in with a crack at gold. Now, I know that dudes are supposed to be into that sort of thing, but we're also supposed to be into passing wind at the other end too, which I don't seem to be very good at. Basically, it seems that all the bits of my gut that should be pushing down are pushing up. On the positive side, it does mean that I only usually 'go' once a day - which all things considered, I can't moan too much about.

I wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar (although on a Venn diagram of people with Crohns, people who've had surgery and people who've had loads of surgery, the overlap is probably pretty small).

Also, the question of stomas (or stomae or whatever the plural is) has never arisen in my treatment but I wonder (i) why not and (ii) if I'm getting there. I've always wondered the precise (rather than general) clinical reasons why people have stomaiii for Crohns so If anyone would be so kind as to enlighten me on the gory details, I would be much obliged.

Thanks for listening.
