my big fat suck a** day

So I had an appt with my surgeon today, he ended up not being there and one of his students (i go to a Univ. research hosp) was covering for him. She was rude to begin with in tone and when asked to update I told her I was hoping to go on LDN. She had no clue what it was but I had taken in paper work, because my surgeon is usually very interested in new stuff (hes used to me bucking traditional means) so I offered it to her to read it. She read maybe the title if that (it was the clinical trials in PA) when she burst out saying I can't do this for you (i hadn't asked her to) and we all know there are only immuno-suppressants, steroids and surgery to treat crohns nothing else has been proven to work. Then she states that I do not have a fissure when the mri, a colonoscopy and a reconstructive pelvic surgeon have all stated otherwise...and there's gas coming out places it shouldn't! Then my husband gets pissed off at her cause its clear that its a waste of time and the two hour trip i made to get there, and i have to calm him down even though Im pissed cause he has this ablity to be rude loud and embarassing to me when he gets that way. He doesn't seem to get that is not being supportive to me........so all in all I had a big fat suck a** day :ymad:

Also walked out without a refill of Zofran that he prescribed to begin with..

I hope you give your surgeon a nice, long earful!! He should have let you know he wasn't going to be in. I think your husband, this time, had the right reaction!! I know we're not often right, but just this once....

I think he had a right too, I was pissed off too but I couldn't release it cause I was too busy tending to him so i end up turning my stress inside me, and that isn't good for the crohns....everytime i get stressed I get a crohns reaction (pain diarrhea etc)

Thanks Amy, I won't see surgeon again for six wks

One good thing did come of it the receptionist told us we can call the wk before and see if the surgeon is going to be there, and reschedule if not

Well, how nice. How much longer would you have to wait for an "appointment" with this individual if he is not going to be there? It is nice that you can call the week before but then do you have to wait another 6 weeks to see him? Then what, take the chance that it won't be him AGAIN? You are a very patient person! I am truly sorry that you went through all that though.
My husband used to do the same thing when he was younger, now not so much. I think because the very last time he pulled that (about 10 years ago) I blasted him in public. I was on massive pain drugs at the time though! I doubt I would have done that if I were straight!
Good luck to you,
Michele

That Dr. wannabe had NO right to go off on you like that. She should be reported for her nasty bedside manner. Seriously. You have a right as a patient to refuse to be seen by medical students or residents at any time and firmly request to be treated by real doctors only.

I threw a resident out of my hospital room once years ago because he was being a real butt head. My best friend was with me at the time and she was rolling on the floor laughing because I told him that his hairy was greasy, he smelled bad, and I refused to let him touch me PLUS I didn't like his bedside manner. Hey, it's my body and if someone is going to touch me, let alone MY ostomy, you better be sterile and clean. There are on call rooms (I use to work in the hospital I frequent) w/sinks and showers for the doctors to clean up in and there is NO EXCUSE for ANY medical personnel to NOT wash up before touching any patient. There was NO WAY in heck this jerk w/an attitude was going to touch me so I told him to go. He was miffed but OH WELL.

Hang in there MadiMarc and I hope you report the nasty student so she won't pull the same thing to another poor patient. Take care. :)

I agree with Doglover. you can report this MD's behavior to your insurance company.(I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the exact protocol/dept. at the moment) but I am very sure that you can report doctors and hospitals to your insurance company if they have treated a pt. unethically/illegally/or caused them harm due to negligence.

Doctors, no matter if they are wannabes or real MDs have to be held accountable for their actions. It's your health, your body, and you have the power to hire and fire them.

Accept no substitutes for the best care possible. Having Crohns is enough to deal with. Then add Dr. wannabe's Idontcareaboutyou tude, I DON'T think so girlfriend. Make an example of her. Fight the copayment!!! you go girl!!!
