I first got really sick in nov 2011, and got "diagnosed" with crohns Jan 2012 after a scope. Meds didn't really work all that well and I kept getting bowel obstructions (4 times to the ER in 2013 alone). My doc told me surgery was most likely my next step and I agreed, anything to get some relief. I was losing weight and not able to eat anything other than ensure or soup. I went to the ER august 27th because I was starting to feel it happening again. Luckily my specialist is right across the street from this hospital, the surgeon and her had been in contact for the past little while.

On august 29th I ended up having a small bowel resection, specifically the ileum. They took out 10cm of small and my appendix while they were in there.

I had a really good experience in the hospital, the surgery went well, they removed the stricture, and the surgeon found 2 fistulas in the same place as well, those were removed too. They were very caring and didn't hold back on the pain medications like some other doctors have. My surgery wasn't laparoscopic so I have a big incision, but they told me that beforehand so it wasn't a surprise, and I honestly don't care about scars I just wanted to feel better.

Fast forward to now and I'm eating pretty much whatever I want, still on 6-MP, and the dr has started me on flagyl because apparently it can reduce the chances of reccurance. They also mentioned doing a scope once everything is healed, and there is talk of remicade if it is needed.

I have gained 15lbs since the surgery, weight I really needed to put on, I've been eating like a pig! I try to keep it healthy most of the time, but sometimes a cheeseburger is just so tasty.

I just hope it lasts for a while!
