I have seen some studies that suggest this supplement can help repair the gut lining. Anyone take this? I think I will add this to my regiment.

I have it but don't use, NAG is usually not sold in pure form (even if it is, I don't know how stable it would be), it usually tends to be a form of shellfish with NAG in it. Safety profile of NAG is also not established, but since it's non-essential, there haven't been many safety tests. (studies use pure NAG, something you won't easily find without getting it made)

NAG is often confused with Glucosamine sulfate btw.

I know there is a Source Naturals "n-a-g" product and a Thorne Research "Perma-Clear"--this one, a complex with glutamine, b. coagulans, s. boullardi, quercetin and ginger.

Haven't tried them.

My son takes Jarrow Formulas N-A-G 750..he tolerates it well, just not too sure if it's helping much with CD. My daughter uses a powder form of NAG made by Ultimate Glucosamine ( they have a website). I give her 2 scoops/day. Not much else is added to the powder, although ingredients list N-Acetyl-D Glucosamine(shrimp). Beware if you are allergic to shellfish! Also, powder is a bit pricey...about $32 for 2.1 oz of powder.

I now take 1-2 caps of Jarrow 750mg NAGlucosamine daily, about a half hour before consuming caffeine, to great effect. I definitely notice this stuff gives me a shield against any harmful effects of caffeine/coffee.

I'm not particularly versed on just why this helps so much, but I just found a study which seems to have just collected dust after reporting substantial benefit to children taking 3-6 grams daily (some took it rectally, even). I may have to up my dose... I think it has something to do with macrophage function and mucin production.

Do you feel it is helping with your crohns? When you say effects of coffee do you mean heartburn or effects of energy levels?

Coffee, probably due to localized inflammation immediately outside of my stomach, can send me to the restroom in minutes after consumption--not all the time but A LOT of the time--if I don't take this stuff as a buffer of sorts. It's really the only food that does that to me so consistently.

You find this supplement relieves of the need to goto the bathroom from coffee? That's interesting not sure why it would.
