Nausea and Loss of Appetite duration- Purinethol

Hi all,

I started 25mg Purinethol and 100mg Allopurinol combination around 4 weeks ago. A week after starting the combination I started to feel very nauseous and had loss of appitite that I'm still experiencing. I'm due to up the purinethol to 50mg soon and am dreading it. For those of you that are on or have been on purinethol how long did the nausea and loss of appitite last for?

I only lasted two weeks as the side effects were so debilitating.
I was taken off it.
I asked how long the side effects might last as I was happy to suffer through for long term gain - but they could not answer my question.

Same Crampy.
I'm running out of options.
It was a real disappointment it didn't work.
But there are a few more on my list to go.
It's going to be a bumpy summer!!

My son did well on the combo. Our GI said if you are experiencing bad side effects that the dose is probably too high. My son for some reason is kept in very solid remission on a dose that is at the sub therapeutic level. Can they run some tests before they up your dosage? Are your symptoms or labs getting better while on the lower dose?

Hope things get better for you. My son takes his dose at night right before he goes to bed. The GI said it helps because you can sleep through any nausea. They can also prescribe zofran for nausea. ((((Hugs)))))

Samboi I hope Crohns doesn't ruin your summer and you have a great one. Unfortunately Crohns has reliably bad timing and always seems to stuff up my summer.

I have just had blood works to measure the level of 6mp in my system hopefully it will be at a level where I won't have to up the 6mp any higher. I will also ask my Dr about Zofran. Just wondering why did you new GI stop your sons allopurinol meds?
