Nausea won't go away

It has been awhile since I've been on here. Anyhow, I've been trying to get this thing under control. I eliminated a bunch of foods that bother me and I take supplements, etc. However, I'm still recovering from the surgery I had in January. I have this crazy appetite. I literally eat a whole chicken in one afternoon. I felt like I was getting better about 2 weeks ago; my appetite wasn't as ferocious, I felt like I had more energy, and I was slowly gaining weight. Then, all of a sudden I became nauseated again! If it is the one health problem I hate; it is nausea. So, now I've been nauseated for 2 weeks :( I saw my doctor a week ago and he increased my pentasa. I'm also taking anti-emetics which help a little. The doctor told me that it would take 3 weeks for me to start feeling better. I felt really good the a couple days ago, no nausea. Now, I feel nauseated again. What could be going on?

This just makes me angry! Its hard enough being hungry all the time but its even worse feeling nauseated at the same time!

Sometimes I feel like I can barely keep my head above water.

If I were you, I'd keep a journal of some sort to document how you feel after eating or doing any activities so you can really pinpoint what it is if you think it's just food or something that you might be doing, it really helps!

Have you tried natural anti-nausea treatments like peppermint tea? There are also lots of anti-nausea meds either OTC or prescription.

I have had bouts of nausea as I have been tapering off pred and at certain times while on antibiotics. It sucks! I didn't get much relief from the anti-nausea meds. For me, the nausea went away while I was eating, believe it or not. So I forced myself to eat several small meals a day. Also my friend who is a nurse told me that sometimes in the hosp they give benedryl to cancer patients suffering nausea from chemo. Maybe worth a try. There's also the unconventional "medicine" that is only medically legal in a couple of states...

Hope you start feeling better soon! - Amy

Ginger capsules always helped when I was nauseated. Ginger is about the only thing that really helps with this, from my experience.

Yeah or ginger biscuits! these help with morning sickness too!
there is an anti nausea drug called cyclizine, they usually give it with morpheine to stop you from being sick, ask your doc about it.

So, I've been putting ginger in my food and I wasn't nauseated the whole day.
It seems to be working o.k. I usually get really nauseated at night so, we'll see.

Thank you all for the advice!:thumright:

Thank you!

Unfortunately it looks like I need to switch meds. Nothing is getting better. Now I have flu-like symptoms; aches and pains, swollen throat. No abdominal pain though but that is exactly what I want to avoid altogether. I don't want to end up having surgery again :(

Bummer. Let's hope that the med switch works out. I had symptoms like that after my surgery but it was a week after my surgery not 7 months later. My surgical site was infected and I had to get reopened up. Not fun. I hope you start feeling better soon.

No meds. switch. My symptoms started to improve. Weird. I was about ready to die a couple days ago and then the next day I was completely fine. No nausea, no flu-like symptoms, no aches, no swollen throat. Nothing. What the heck?

Thanks for all the support!

Hey, so glad things have improved! Crazy that the symptoms just went away...but good crazy. :)

Apparently pentasa can cause flu-like symptoms so maybe I've just adjusted to the higher dose but its still weird how everything else went away. My abdomen was so distended. I thought I was going to pop! Oh well. I'm just very grateful. Sometimes I forget what its like to feel good because I'm so used to being sick and then when I do feel good its like heaven. I relish those moments.
