Hi! I was just diagnosed 2 months ago. Long story short: was diagnosed, put on Asacol, after 3 weeks doctor had me stop taking because having an allergic reaction. The 3 weeks on meds seems to gave put it in remission though. My question is this: before diagnosis I had insatiable hunger (or at least an insatiable desire to eat). When I started having symptoms I lost my appetite for the most part. Now that I'm not having symptoms I am wanting to eat non-stop again, only now I'm packing on weight. I know appetite loss is a more normal symptom of the disease, but can anybody explain why I'm having the opposite? I keep telling myself my body thinks it's needing nutrients, but if that's the case, why the weight gain?

Your weight gain could be many things, but make sure you are eating ONLY a healthy diet and getting at least 30 minutes of walking or exercise each day. It is best to eat every few hours, to get the belly on track, but make sure it is only healthy foods and make sure you are processing it well. Digestive enzymes seem to make a difference for many. Make sure you have protein in each snack (i.e., almonds, beans, whatever), so you will feel full. I agree, your body is craving nutrients. good luck!

I am guessing, you weren't absorbing nutrients before so your body was telling you to eat as much as possible to get enough nutrients. Now you are in remission, you don't need the extra nutrients (so that's why you are gaining weight) but your body is used to eating the extra! Like if you don't eat much your body adjusts and you become full very quickly, you are having the opposite!
