Hello everyone

I'm 21 years old and I'm from Glasgow in Scotland. I've been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease since April 2012 with symptoms from September 2011. Even though its been 6 months since diagnosis, I still am finding it difficult to come to terms with especially with complications with medications. But I just wanted to officially join the forum because I've been on here so many times reading other peoples' stories, taking comfort from them so I just wanted to say thank you. I don't feel as alone anymore.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I am glad you have decided to join.

What medications are you on and what complications are you experiencing? Is the tum still unsettled?

There is certainly a lot to take in and accept when first diagnosed, just know you have come to the right place for lots of helpful info and support

Hello!

I'm currently on Budesonide 3mg and that's it. I used to be on Azathiprone but it wreaked havoc on my ALT levels/liver enzymes and I had to come off them. Hopefully, my consultant is going to try me back on AZA with Allapurinol as a co-therapy treatment but only once they've sent me for scans to see if my liver is all right!

I still get severe abdominal pains and extreme discomfort before a bowel movement, I've lost a lot of weight and I can't eat with the same vigour as I did before. Food almost has become a necessity rather than a pleasure. Plus, all the emotional stuff - it takes it toll. It's just very frustrating to not be on medication. I know it can take forever to get medications right but its been near a year since my first set of symptoms and I don't feel any further on, bar from the fact I have been officially diagnosed.

But here's hoping, things get sorted out. Thanks for taking the time to speak to me! x

hi im new on here today, ive had crohns for 12 years an ive never had medication that settles it apart from prednisone, ive had a couple off opp which i ended up havin a stoma only for 6 months.. as the years have gone by crohns is just normal, i no what tour goin throu an what u are feelin your only 21 an its alot to deal with.. i was 18 when i was diagnosed.. but times have changed since then an medication is getting better an better... xx

One thing it may be worth asking the doc about is 6-mp, this is like a 'sister' drug to the Aza but I was told that people seem to be less likely to have the problems with this than you would the Aza.

Do you notice if things get worse with certain foods at all?

Yeah, I can't eat anything fast foodish anymore - bloats me like hell. I also get sore eating certain fruits like melon and grapes which is annoying as they are my favourite fruits. I've heard about 6-MP but I thought it was an American version of AZA for some reason.

Thanks for all your support guys, really appreciate it. xx
