Hello Everyone,
I am 33 and was diagnoised with Chrons disease 2 weeks ago.
I was experiencing symptoms like loss of appetite and loss of weight. I lost about 18 pounds in 3 months and went to the doctor. They performed Endoscopy and Colonoscopy and found out that I have Chrons. They have put me on anti-biotics for 1 week and am currenlty taking Pentasa (4/day) and Entocort(2/day).
I got my appetite back lately and was wondering if anyone had gone through the same situation.
I haven't had any abdominal pains, diarrea, bloody bowels etc. and I was wondering if someone could advise me whether I would experience these symptoms in future etc.
I am new to this forum and new to this disease and any advise would be greatly appreciated.

loss of appetite

Hello Vankin, I've just recently been diagnosed also...Last July I went through what you did...Loss of appetite and that was it...No other symptoms at all...I new it was unusal that I was not eating, as much as I LOVE to eat...It just got to where I wasn't hungry at all and the thought of food disgusted me...My doctor said it was probably stress, although I didn't feel stressed at all...My life is pretty stress free, thank God...I finally did get my appetite back after several weeks of not wanting to eat...I had a barium X-ray done and they said everything looked fine...It wasn't but just a few days later I started seeing blood during BM's...And then irregular BM's...I waited forever to go the dr(about 6 months)...Finally I went and he sent me for a sigmoidoscopy and then a colonoscopy...Anyway, I'm new to this too and the only symptoms I have now are blood/mucus in the stool and some cramping...Sometimes in the morning I spend a lot of time in the bathroom...I can't really answer your question about wosening of symptoms, just wanted to share my experience since it was somewhat similar to yours...Although I had asked on this forum before about symptoms wosening...I was reading some really bad experiences from other people and was wondering if my symptoms would get worse...Hope they don't!!! Let us know how you are doing...

Have a good day

Hello Vankin,

I am sorry to hear that you have just been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, but I am glad that you found us.

There is so much one could say about the disease, so why don't you just make a thread about anything you are curious about and we will answer you. Be sure to also search through past threads as there is a lot of good information in there.

Lody, Not everyone here has severe symptoms although some do. I have almost no symptoms. No problem working 60 or more hours a week. I do get tired easier than before but I do not mind taking a nap now and then.

Even if you do have bad symptoms, it does not mean that you will always have them.

I think most people here have had good times and bad with Crohn's.

That is part of the frustration is not knowing what will happen next or what is going to help the most.

I lost around sixty pounds at my worst, before surgery, now I have gained back forty pounds. I am now at the weight I should be at in about five months. I was twenty pounds overweight when I got my stricture. The disease is active in me right now as far as I can tell. I am trying to stop the activity using a variety of non drug methods. I do not recommend this for others as it could back fire. But, that is a personal decision that each person has to decide. It is easier for me to do this method also since I am not in pain.

Currently some people here, myself included, are trying probiotics to see if this method can help. Too early for me to draw any conclusions, but it seems to help some of those using them, but not all.

If you have any questions, just ask and likely more than one person will give you information or an opinion.

Have a good day.

Hello Vankin.

First let me say welcome to the forum!
You may go into remission and have little or no return of the disease..
but, most likey you may have flairs from time to time.

I have been quite well fortunately for the past 8 years and kept well
without surgery, only with meds and a pretty strict diet and exercise and a positive outlook.

It's hard to know how the disease will go with each person as we are all different.

As for the weight...I started to gain it back in about a month...gradually gaining as the trips to the bathroom slowed.

Roam the forums here, there is plenty of reading material.

We're here to support one another and maybe be able to answer some questions.

Once again...welcome! :)

No one can tell what tomorrow will bring. Sounds like right now your treatment has turned the corner for you. Living with crohns is pretty much the same as living w/o.
People w/o it have good & bad days, ups and downs, other illnesses to deal with..

You may find that some of the stories on this site, the shared experiences, are really horrific... doesn't mean that the same will happen to you. and I think most will show you that those of us with crohns, CC, UC or whatever, manage to survive and thrive just fine, thanks

To be honest Vankin, I didn't really pay that close attention...I was just glad to have an appetite back...My appetite gradually came back and I gradually started gaining weight back...Since then, no other problems eating...Now eating like a cow because of the Prednisone...Can't wait to get off that stuff...

I am sure that you will find lots of support here. As I have found & made lots of new friends. I am NOT the one with CROHN'S but it's my husband ... he ah has had it since December 2005 & well he lost a lot of weight since the start of all this and has also gone through plenty of sizes in plants & clothes so my best advice for you is ...

* Keep your old clothes - As maybe some day you might be able to wear some of them to work out in the yard with ... or work on the car with so my husband has all of his but they are packed away !!

* Build your tolerance to eating food again little by little - And it will return as it did with my husband.

* Keep a journal ... to chart all that you put into your mouth & also keep track of all your medications too & how your feeling so that you have something to take into the DOCTOR if you start having problems again !!

* Prayer ... This helps too !! As it helped me get through the rough times & also have friends here to lean on was a REALLY BIG HELP !!

So don't give up hope you have found a WONDERFUL & VERY LOVING HOME !!
