Hello,

New to forum and was diagnosed initially with UC after first and second colonoscopy. After my third I was told by my GI doc that I now may have Crohns instead. I was on the Asacol 800 mg only initially for roughly 2yrs but strongly desired to be prescription free and went the natural "holistic" approach with a few diff herbs and a huge change in diet.

I am 6'3" and weigh 160lbs. Before 2010 diagnosis I was able to maintain 165-170lbs with minimal effort. I have lately started to lose a pound or two a day with no noticeable pain blood or horrible side effects other than the weight loss. My bowel movements are 1-2 a day but seem to "download" the entire contents of intestines in one trip to the bathroom. I was not doing this before.

Difficulty maintaining weight, not good with my frame. Any advice or similar situations? Thank you.

UC/Crohns diagnosis Mar 2010
treatment was asacol hd 800 mg x2 daily with folic acid which lasted roughly two years

Attempted non prescription approach:

boswellia
tumeric
bromelain
fish oil
probiotic
and the list goes on.........

HI firedawg,
what kind of adaptations have you had to make to your diet? Sometimes that can affect how you go, and also how you can maintain weight. I have to be pretty restrictive with my diet, but I seem to have found a good balance and have been able to maintain my weight for a while now.

My diet change included no longer eating anything with food dyes and high fructose corn syrup mainly. I also eat less dairy but not totally. Then I switched to purchasing "organic" meats and vegetables.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like you've got a good start there. I'd still advise that you try to keep a food diary, to determine what you are eating that might cause more pain or more bathroom time. There are different trigger foods for each person with IBS/IBD, but dairy is usually a big one, as well as many raw veggies and fruits, corn and gluten.
