I have been taking humira for 3 months and have had good control of my crohn's but have found that my joints are killing me and swelling, therefore causing me to be concerned with damage. I also have zero appetite. I have lost 15 pounds in the three months. Did any one else have these issues, and if so, how did you manage them? FYI: I was on remicade for 12 years prior with great results, but can not take it now due to infusion issues.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues Pam and very sorry for the late response.

I didn't have these issues while on Humira but hopefully someone else will be able to chime in and share. I'm assuming you talked to your doctor by now who prescribed it. Did they up the dose? Are you feeling any better now?

Joint pain is listed as a side effect of Humira, but with Crohns it could also be a symptom of the disease.

Sorry for the late response also.

I totally agree with this statement. I have observed that we (including myself) that take Humira are quick to point to the drug as the problem when we still exhibit symptoms of the disease.

This is not to say that it cannot be a side effect. Have you ever had the same pain/symptoms before Humira?

Humira has lessened my joint pain significantly.

Best of Luck

I was on Remicade for 8 years with little or no side effects. It took a while to turn the tide but was great for reducing my symptoms. After about 6 years it started to lose it's effectiveness. I switched to Humire a year and a half ago. The only side effect I noticed immediately was terrible headaches. They have subsided but nausea and loss of appetite took it's place. With remicade, I felt joint pain in my hips and knees. Now with Humira, I have pain in my elbow joints. No swelling though. I started using MMJ and it helps immensely with nausea, appetite and general sense of well being. As far as the joint pain, I take a lot of Tylenol.
