I have new symptoms...yay! I'm glad I'm going to my g.i. soon (Friday) my first appointment....since my hospital stay...
For those not up to speed...they believe I have Crohn's...
Anyways...I'm getting this horrible stabbing pain in and around my navel.. essentially...my belly button hurts. It comes in spasms of pain that last a few minutes go away for a few and then return over about a 15 minute time period. That sucks huh? Just when I thought having those exact pains on my backside was the worst it could get...this starts too....
What could cause this?

Is it the belly button or below the surface? I'll assume it's your intestines. You may have an inflamed or ulcerated spot in the middle of your transcending colon. Your colon (large intestine) goes up your right side (ascending), across generally in line with your naval depending on how flabby you are(transcending), and then it goes down your left side (descending) creating kind of a frame around your small intestine. You can usually know better where your disease is affecting you by feeling where the pain is located than a doctor can tell with a CT scan or even a scope.

Keep in mind that you will not have visible signs early on in the disease unless it's usually severe. Your intestines will not have had time to accumulate damage on a clearly visible level (usually it's scar tissue they're seeing, not active disease). Don't be completely discouraged if your colonoscopy is negative. Also keep in mind that the colonoscopy can only see your large intestine so if your pain is actually more in the center of that frame and thus in your small intestine there's no chance they'll be able to see it without surgery or maybe an MRI.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and like you, my doctor "thinks" that I have Crohn's. I'll hopefully have an answer, one way or the other, in early October.

I too get a terrible stabbing pain, only mine is on my lower left side. It hurts for about 30 to 60 seconds, stops for a few minutes, hurts again. This goes on and off sometimes for a day or so. Then, the next day nothing. I don't feel this pain everyday, it's just sparatic days. I have no clue why. If you get an answer from your doc, please post what he's said. It would be interesting to know. Good luck on Friday.

Mine was mid-line in the belly as well last night, the doctor in the ER thinks it is the beginning of a flare even though barium and iodine contrast shows nothing. Pain and nausea is a good sign that things are taking a turn. I am to return to be admitted if the liquid diet and painkillers don't work as they should.

Ya that is why I wrote a letter to my doctor to consider trying steroids before I check myself in for a 3-4 day "vacation" from life. I can't just check out and check back in whenever I want - geeeze if only these doctors knew the life of a single mom!

My pain is always behind or below the belly button. The only time I get a stabbing pain it is on the right side. I have inflammation in many spots throughout the colon.

i understand what its like to be a single mum, its hard enough when your fit and well but when we get ill its even worse. i dread getting so ill that i have to go to hospital, if i did my son would have to go into care of the social services as i have no family living within close range of his school. regards sharon x
