New to forum and have doctor question

Have a friend who's daughter has UC. She is 18. Can anyone tell me who the very best doctor for UC is in the US or clinic? Is it Mayo or somewhere else? Thank you in advance.

:welcome: there are some posts with doctors in the states. Uc or CD doesnt matter, both are to be seen by a Gi. Better than an internist.

We are in Texas but it doesn't matter. They just want to go to the very best there is. And I am sure there are many but we didn't know where to start.

She is seen by a gastro now but he is saying she may need to go to someone who specializes.

Since there are over 3000 docs I was hoping for some clarity on who maybe has published the most effective studies, had the most success with UC, etc.

I go to the Jill Roberts Center for Inflamatory Bowel Disease in New York City. Granted I live here so it is not a stretch, but they are the best. They only see CD and UC patients and are on the forefront of all medications, clinical trials, etc. Link is below and they are affiliated with NY Presbyterian Hospital (a place that I have spent a lot of time and one of the best hospitals). All that said, maintenance is KEY to long term UC/CD care. Traveling far may not be realistic or a good choice. When I am having a flare I see my doctor at least twice a month. It is also comforting to know if something comes up tomorrow, I can make an appointment and be seen right away. Waiting or having to travel to be seen by a doctor with this disease would seem really taxing and not all that practicle. I'm sure there are great GIs somewhere close. But hey, if they can, and are willing to travel endlessly for this then more power to them!

Thank you so much Beth. You are right, traveling may be cost prohibitive since there are so many flareups. She may be referred to Dallas soon if the Iruman they are starting now doesn't work for her. Had a huge flareup at Christmas and doctor decided not to start it but is now. She sees a phenomenal GI doctor here. Thanks!
