Hi all!
This is my first time on an online forum for IBD as before today I was wrongly diagnosed. I am 23, female and I have been struggling greatly with eating and digestion within the last 18 months as well as through my teenage years. I was originally diagnosed with IBS last April but after consist and pain and upset stomach (and a nasty experience which ended in a ambulance being called) I was referred to a gastro specialist. I underwent a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago (in which biopsies were taken).
Today I reviewed the results with my consultant and was told I have Lymphocytic Colitis in the large intestine. As well as this, there are small ulcers in my small intestine which, after investigation have come back undiagnosed. The next step is a barium follow through as my doc thinks the ulcers might mean crohns. I have not been prescribed any medication as my doc wants to do more investing to find the cause of my symptoms before prescribing steroids etc.
I have a few questions as the internet, especially online medial information can be confusing and scary...
1. Anyone with Lymphocytic Colitis or intestinal ulcers...is there a dietary plan that you follow which eases symptoms? At the moment I know I have a problem with onion and garlic.
2. Is it possible to have both Lymphocytic Colitis and crohns?
3. Is Lymphocytic Colitis an IBD? (My doc didn't say)
I probably sound a bit like a rabbit caught in the headlights because to be honest that's how I feel. After a long journey so far it's encouraging to have some form of diagnosis, however there is still a lot up I'm the air. I left the hospital knowing a bit about what's going on but with no info about how to deal with the colitis.
Thank you in advance from a slightly scared but hopeful me
