newly diagnosed

This is my first post on this forum, I've been recently diagnosed with Ileitis Chrohn's . I've mainly had a sharp pain on my right lower side for 7 months, my doctor diagnosed me after having done a CT Enterography. He is now putting me on Entocort for only 1 month to see if the inflamation goes away . If it does he said I will be fine if not, he will do another colonoscopy where he will pass through the colon all the way to the ilieum to take a biopsy and further investigate. My question is, is it possible to take entocort only for 1 month, do these meds have any bad side effects ? I've heard that you have to decrease the dosage rather than stop taking them at all, is this the case if I take them for only 1 month? Thanks in advanced.

Hello, ninety.

Sorry to hear you're having these issues, but glad you're getting treatment.

Sounds to me like your doctor is taking a conservative course and your treatment is still in the early stages until everything can be sorted out.

Others here can probably comment more on the specifics of Entocort. I don't take it myself.

2 weeks

hi,

iv been just diagnosed with crohns but a minor case let it be said in comparison to most of the guys here , i feel so lucky to have the chance to hopefully not get to the cronic stage, I have been prescribed entocort but only a small dose of 3mg for one month and also Dipentum, which doesnt seem to be mentioned here a lot as the other guys probably need a lot stronger dose than i do, so i have been on these meds for about 2 weeks now and i have felt a lot better but am still very very tired and i am getting a lot of headaches and i dont know weather this is from the entocort or not,
just wanted to let you know this, id say the others will have more info for you, and i hope you feel better soon,:)

Hi there, and welcome! You can take Entocort for a long period than Prednisone, the side effects are very low in comparison. Entocort works great if you are in mild to moderate stages...at this point you or your doctor are not sure what stage your crohns is in. I have crohns exactly where yours is. I have had crohns many many years and trial and error is the only way to see what works best for you. Entocort worked great for 5 years then peter'd out. Hopefully Entocort should work or an antibiotic can help, it works for me when I flare. Pain is not fun, being on here is! Welcome, sorry you are not feeling too well, hope you hang around and ask questions, we will help best we can!

I see, I guess 1 month won't be as bad, what about diet wise anything I should eat less or more of while taking entocort?

Hi , thanks for the response, I've mainly been watching what I eat for the last 7-8months . I guess I have an idea of what I should eat or avoid eating. The main symptoms that I have is pain on my right side, bloating, diareah but mostly excrutiating pain when having diareah...As for those of you that take Entocort, if I take it 1 month do I have to gradually diminish the dossage I will be taking ? I heard that in order to stop taking it one has to lower the dossage little by little. Going to call my Dr. this week but am anxious to know = )
