I'm pretty sure it's a scam.
Call me gullible, but the story is on a real news website. If you go to the KOMO 4 Seattle site and search her name, the story comes up.
Also - I checked www.snopes.com , a great site for telling which stories are scams and which aren't. It's not on there at all, which doesn't mean it is or isn't, but odds are better that it is real. It's only been 5 days since it's been on the news, not enough time for the site to grab the story yet.

Hmmm. Could be legit then. And it could be that the other one I saw was a scam modeled after the real deal.

I've seen this on the news in Portland too so I'm pretty sure it's legit. What I don't get though is that they only do the BM transplant if the person has SCID and she says she has CVID, I can only assume IVIG isn't working or was denied which worries me as this looks like the path I'm going to have to take (IVIG) and I have Blue Cross as well .. BCBS of California though.

It depends on your individual policy. Even under the umbrella of BCBS in a particular state, you'll see literally hundreds of variants on how the policies are worded. In some cases, BCBS is actually only operating as the paper shufflers. Boeing, for instance, is entirely self-insured, but they pay BCBS a fee to handle all their paperwork for them.
