Nicotine from electronic cigarettes with Crohn's

About 3 weeks ago I picked up an e-cigarette and have been using it almost daily, usually just on the drive to and from school. Today I read that cigarettes can make Crohn's worse, but it was unclear whether it's the nicotine in the cigarettes or some other compound.

I have never had more than the occasional cigarette, but I find the nicotine from e cigs helps me wake up in the morning and puts me in a good headspace, unlike actual cigarettes which leave me feeling anxious. I usually vape 12mg juices, but I'll likely start buying 6mg as it usually seems to be enough.

So far I haven't noticed my symptoms getting worse or anything (except for losing a pound, gotta work on the eating).

Does anyone have experience with Crohn's and non-cigarette nicotine?

There's a weird connection between smoking and IBD.

In people with Crohn's it has a very negative effect but smoking can prevent Ulcerative colitis. It could be "benefical" for the colon inflammation but very bad for the small intestines. However, I don't advocate smoking.

According to research, nicotine from non-cigarette sources had no positive effect on UC sufferers. They concluded that the effects of smoking on Crohn's/UC are not from the nicotine but from something else.

Since I quit, I feel better for sure. Nicotine was just an expensive habit anyway.

I smoked for 7 years and stopped cold turkey for 6 months, then started to use an electronic cigarette.

And yeah I felt better for sure but not with regard to my (undiagnosed) Crohn's symptoms but just more energy, waking up better.

I'm glad you quitted and feel better! :drink:
