no symptoms, was i miss diagnosed

I was diagnosed with crohn's just over 1 year ago, i had no symptoms apart from pain inn my right side, docs thought it was my appendix so went in to have a look they seen that just beside my appendix was inflammed and said it was crohn's. i havent had any symptoms since then and about 5 months ago i ended up having to get my appendix out. does this seem weird or has it happened to anyone else. im 16 weeks pregnant now and im really considering coming off my meds as i have had no flare ups since that stint in hospital 1 year ago, the docs arent very helpful either they were aware i was planning on having a child and offered no information about pregnancy and imuran.

PEN thank you so much. It is very weird alright that they tell me i have Crohn's but i think because ive never actually experienced many of the symptoms so feels a bit surreal.

Thanks for the support about the pregnancy, yes it's my first im really excited and fingers crossed everything goes well, im a bit aprehensive about it as there is not alot of information about pregnancy and crohn's but hopefully we wont experience any defects from the meds

Anyway will keep regular updates of how me and baby are doing

The diagnosis is iffy. Were there any signs of ulceration? While having a colonoscopy with inflammation and no ulcers is normal for crohn's, the connection with your appendix and the lack of other symptoms makes it suspect. I'm not saying that it's not crohn's or that anyone did the wrong thing in diagnosing you, but it's still possible it was just appendicitis.

Talk to your doctor about the pregnancy and how it related to crohn's. Many people who have bad symptoms have their condition improved by the pregnancy hormones so you're probably at low risk of any complications and you can probably go off the meds for now. What needs to happen is another colonoscopy. Considering the pregnancy you'll probably have to wait until after you've had the baby because of the anesthesia.

You simply need to be monitored for a while to confirm the diagnosis. Take you off the meds, have you keep track of any symptoms, and do a few more colonoscopies over the course of a few years to see if the inflammation shows up again. If you're doing fine, then great. If you ever show symptoms again, then you're on the fast track to the return of that crohn's diagnosis.
