I have had Crohns disease for a while now. Since my surgery in 1995 I have had very little symptoms. Unfortunately, I have had multiple bouts of iritis and now I got my first fissure. About 6 weeks ago, my butt was really, really itchy for a few days, I used powder and it got better. Then I just felt something was wrong. Looking in the mirror was what looked like a large ulcer above my anus.
Currently, living in Seoul, so went to my GP there and he gave me steroids, antibiotics, and steroid cream. Done with the meds, but still using the cream. It looks better, but is still there.
Maybe I am just being impatient, but wonder if anyone else has had non-painful fissures (suppose i should be thankful for the lack of pain, I read others felt awful) and what worked. Moving back to the States in a week and already have an appointment with a GI, but hoping to get it healing as best I can. I can't take a bath, as most Korean bathrooms only have showers. :( Any advice or knowledge of treatment would help.

I have a fissure that isn't painful at all. It's actually just shrinking now, almost gone actually. But I've had it for almost 3 years now. Not sure if it's because I got rid of alot of my disease with my surgery, or if it's just time. I never bothered doing anything about it, and my GI said that if it's not bothering me, don't worry about it as some treatment options can be painful. I'd say that if it's not hurting you, don't worry about it till you can see your GI and see what they say about it.

I think the difference is time
an acute anal fissure goes away pretty quickly, maybe 4 weeks, with meds
a chronic one stays and reoccurs, for years
mine's a chronic one, exacerbated by constipation

Welcome!
